We paid a surprise visit to our very dear and respected cousin in Shahdrah. Surprisingly that was the right time as he has just returned from Haj. Had the opportunity to have namaz-e-maghrib with him. I had the 'first dinner' of that day at the same place.

It was nice meeting you all and may Allah give you more Haj opportunities.

The same problem: The photos from Shahdrah to Lahore Cantonment were haunted by ghosts.

Lahore Railway Station:

The dinner was at a cousin's place. It was my second dinner of the day but I did justice with the food and didn't let my hosts had a slight feel about it

Thank you very much for such a nice dinner and get-together.

The tenth day of our tour ends here.

Day Eleven: 30th December 2009 - Lahore.

The day started late. After breakfast I took the car for service at PSO Girja Chowk, Lahore Cantonment. (around 12:40 hours) The kids were with me as my kids enjoy to see the car being repaired or washed

The people at this service station were very cooperative and did a good job. They followed my instructions with a smiling face.

Highly recommended.

@Raheeln: Assalam Alaikum:
Jazak Allah to people who have constructed Masjids and namaz facilities on fuel stations and hotels. They are continuously getting their share of 'sawaab'-- I think 'sadqa-e-jaaria' would be the right phrase.

Rehan its a legal requirement to have a prayers' area, a toilet and I think a restaurant as well on a petrolpump on the highway.

What is good now a days is since more and more people are traveling, therefore, we are getting more and more 'suitable' toilets and off course restaurants but I still prefer truck hotel for 'authentic' food.

I have noticed a remarkable change in last 10 years though I am travelling on roads since 1985.

Operator's decorated cabin

The operator's cabin in these machines is more luxurious than you may think. Best A/C (both heating and cooling), AM/FM radio, cassette player (CD/MP3 player in newer machines), bucket seat (only one), cruise control (you can manually set engine RPM by punching numbers on a dial e.g. 1200+enter <enter> for 1200 RPM or by knob) etc. Even the smallest machines have diesel I-6 and permanent 4x4. By that I mean center locking diff and other both are either open or locking depending upon model. 2-speed or 3-speed gearbox all available in forward or reverse.
The purpose of all these amenities is to make the operator spend more and more time inside the cabin (at his/her job) and not outside.

@RZ, you keep considering different rides for buying. You can add this to your list too.

Honestly I would like to upload all data at once. Sorry for keeping you waiting but if you just check the time of my updates, you will agree that I have to bring out special time for this activity. However, uploading these pictures reminds me of the adventure and pleasure associated with it.

Getting away with legal requirements in our country, unfortunately, is very easy. They could have saved the money they have invested in construction and maintenance of prayer areas. But they have not only constructed this facility but also maintaining it, while providing hot water during winters in the ablution areas. Again Jazak Allah to them.

I also prefer truck hotels for food.
