The road condition between Ubaro and Rohri Bypass is pitiable and it is like that for years. The car speed was hardly 20 km/h at most of the places. The surprising element is that Rohri~Ubaro phase is all right.
The other element we faced during this phase is the Police. Right after crossing Punjab-Sindh provincial border and till Panno Aqil we were stopped numerous times by Police.
The ridiculous questions asked were:
Where are you coming from?
Where are you going?
What is your profession?
We were asked for car registration book and on showing they kept on asking other documents like driving licence, CNIC, authority letter from owner, CPLC NOC, Insurance certificate, Tax receipt, etc.
I was never asked for any document while travelling all over the country and none of such stupid questions. The only document I had to show was my CNIC and that too while entering cantonment areas.
It was also noticed that vehicles with families onboard were being stopped specially. After seeing complete documents, we were asked to have our luggage checked. This is where my patience was over. However I controlled myself ---and sorry to say that but I threw some bone to these dogs (I am not happy to quote this but this is what I did). No doubt they have great respects for our Quaidâs pictures. It simply means that anything could be carried in car for hundred or two hundred rupees.
An official at another post was:
Sir what is your name?
What is your caste?
Where are you coming from?
Where are you going?
What is your profession?
Saeen we are here for youâplease give us some money? (Is this the value of their uniform they have?)
This practice left bad taste in mouth. People all over our country are so lovely and courteous; I wonder which breed has been appointed in the Police posts in this area?
Recently a Police official in Karachi told me that the crew in these posts has been replaced and they have been told not to harass travelling families. God knows....
