SAIC Roewe has been able to build on its Rover roots and churn out some rather attractive designs. The Roewe N1 is quite well resolved from most angles, and its design is widely expected to make it into production unscathed. That the car's styling jibes with Western sensibilities is important, because the company plans to roll a production N1 out not just to domestic audiences next year, but likely to European audiences a short time later.

Unlike some previous Roewe offerings, the N1 sits on a new chassis, but it will reportedly still rely on updated versions of the British automaker's K-series four-cylinder powerplants. Inside, the N1 is rather more ambitious, featuring a touch-screen interface with full-on internet connectivity, a "3D" digital gauge cluster, and a navigation system based on open-source coding.

Is surfing the internet while driving a possibility? That may not be a dream anymore. Following the 3G license issued in China this year, a car which aims to combine 3G computer capability and a comfortable driving environment has been unveiled at the 13th Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition.

The concept car, Roewe N1, displays SAIC Motor's answer to a future which combines driving and technology. With this in mind, Roewe N1 has been designed to be able to provide 3D-GPS guidance and real-time information about traffic flow. It combines online business and amusement in one automobile. With the appliance of web 2.0, a passenger can even read blogs while in the car.

Digital concepts have proven profitable in the Chinese auto market. The sales volume of Roewe 550, a former production model of Roewe N1 with digital capabilities, has hit sales of 5,000 in a single month, according to SAIC Motors statistics. SAIC Motors says that they are committed to building high-level Chinese brands. Their sales volume has increased fourfold, year on year, in the first quarter of 2009.

This year SAIC brings a total of 16 cars to the auto show. Besides the Roewe series, the company is displaying WG, another main brand the company is developing. To distinguish it from Roewe, WG highlights "passion" and "mobility". It's a car series made for global consumers.

this is yet another Chinese concept shaping into production. though the production version isn't as fancy as the concept above... some leaked pix below of the car in the test phase, its about to hit the market by the end of this years probably... will be called Roewe 350

The above car is the Roewe 350, the third self developed car from SAIC for their Roewe brand. The 350 takes on the design cues of the Roewe N1 concept car that was first seen at last years Shanghai Auto Show and shows that SAIC can take a car from concept to production in just a few months. The car itself is still a mystery, rumors of a 1.5T engine have been floating around for quite some time, but it is likely to launch first with a 1.5VVT (producing 76KW of power) engine which will cater to first time buyers and those who are searching for a car in the 100,000rmb sector. Gearboxes will come in the choice of a 4 speed autobox or a 5 speed manual, which are slightly archaic in 2010 but will suit the Chinese market and intended price segment quite well.
