sir i agree with u .. liana is a great car.. i learnt how to drive on it and drove it for 3 or 4 years .. it gave me no issues at all as proper maintenance was done.. i even hit 160 on it once on a 1km strech
but i do disagree about resale .. liana's resale value in pak is pathetic and only those ppl buy it whose budget doesnt allow them to buy citys or corolas/// i had to sell mine at a ridiculous price of 6.20lacks (2006 model - but it was quite a bit repainted) even cars of 06 or 07 in market didnt have a tag exceeding 6.80 or 7 lacks

Here are the comments i got from various posts and threads i made

1-it has a bad engine
2-it is a failure on cng
3-your sundays will be spent at mechanics shop
4-Its resale is pathetic
5-its shape is soooo ugly

Only a handful of pakwheelers have said good stuff about liana...

I would like it if you can share your experiance with your liana and why you are upgrading for another liana despite its bad reputation.... also now that it is no more under manufacturing...

Liana owners please jumpin and comment... Liana haters you are most welcome... but please give valid reasons and avoid reasons like:

1-it cannot go from 0-100 in 4 seconds
2-it cannot beat reborn in a race
3-all 1300 cc cars from suzuki are bound to fail
4-Liana is a fail cause jermy clarkson said so (they way the idiot drove it on topgear , would make any normal family sedan break out)
5-it has no features....
6-market has failed the car
7-my mechanic has failed the car
9-my cat has failed the car
10-my tooth fairy has failed the car

no offence , but jeremy clarkson doesnt like porsche's 911 too , that doesnt really mean porsches are bad cars
1- even a BMW M3 cant do a 100 in 4 secs
2- only a failure on cng if shown to a non-suzuki 3S dealership .. local and cheap mechanics are bound to destroy it
3- baleno 1300cc is still a respected car in pak
4- jeremy clarkson doesnt like porsche's 911 too , that doesnt really mean porsches are bad cars
5- it has got more features than city idsi's - cd player , 4 speakers with a provision for 2 more , remote key , abs and bigger side mirrors , biger rims too
6- the only thing i agree with u .. market has failed this car coz market it paindoo
7- mechanic knows sh*t about this , he shud do proper courses about car mechanics

My first personal car was a brand new liana rxi which I bought on 7th april 2006 it was non cng version and I converted it to cmg afterwards kept it for 3 and a half years the only issues I faced in my liana were a blown coil worth 4500 and had to fix the tappet shims at 80, 000 kms. I must agree here it wasnt as tuff as a corolla but it was a great car road grip was too good better than a corolla. Spares were expansive and non genuine stuff doesnt work in liana and hence people face different failures. When I sold my car it was around 105, 000 kms driven. Sold it to a friend who took it to 130, 000 kms and never faced any serious issue neither it broke down in the middle of the road ever.

My verdict is overall it was an excellent car of its time, definitelty its too old to compete with city any more.

dear i have liana for five years . never felt any off the faults you mention .. never go to mechanics and layman advices.
it's perfectly fine till now after 92k millage. listen to your heat when ever you want to do something.

i owned liana from oct 2006 to nov 2012 .. the following repairs were needed
1- at 50,000km , left 'goda' replaced.. rs10,000
2- at 80,000km , coil changed .. rs 1000 (got them from spare part shop instead of buying the whole thing)
3- at 85,000km , clutch plate and pressure plate replaced .. rs25000 , if i knew i would be sellin it after 3 or 4 months i would have not done so
4- at 85,000km , first time radiator belt changed ..rs4000 after it started making funny sounds

all spare parts should be genuine ,, desi parts dont work on it
yes i agree not as durable as corolas , but drive wise much better and more enjoyable and more spacious too

@carsaaz, Everyone has his own experience and has right to express his/her feelings regarding anything. But that feeling should be supported by personal experience to weight his comment.

Anyways, coming to your question, I had 2 Lianas 1st one was 1.6 Eminent Automatic. That was on petrol and ran very fast never had experience with Reborn but many times had race with corollas and other new cars. Liana never let me down.
My Second Liana was Rxi, Vurv with CNG, never had any issue on CNG as well as on Petrol. CNG average was 200 Km per refill on long route and 150 in Lahore city.
As far as features are concerned, Car has everything which are available here in High Class Local Cars in Pakistan. like ABS. IMMOBILIZER. DVD. POWER WINDOWS. POWER MIRROR. CENTRAL LOCKING. and so on. (I am talking about Eminent and Lxi).

The only issue is MARKET VALUE or RESALE VALUE. if you intend to keep car for a longer run. I am sure this would not be an issue.

The only key to have a good Liana is never go to a local/Desi mechanic. they can take you Liana to that stage where there is no return.
I had never been to any mechanic just Suzuki dealership once, just for regular check up and came back with mechanic words. your car is perfectly alright no need of anything.

2-Jeremy Clarkson is an idiot , his own team detests him, i resent his remarks since he is a pro English car manufacturing. It is rare that he placed any Japanese brand over English brands...he can hate porches how ever i admire it...
3-4 sec thingy is a lame fantasy of our juggernaut blooming car fan generation..I used this point just for the sake of spicing up the topic, had no relevance whatsoever.
4-Since Liana is no more in production , it is only a matter of time before we 3s dealers reject taking in older lianas for maintenance... leaving you to the mercy of roadside guddus...
5-Lianas have always offered more then what the avg city does.. in one of my posts i mentioned ,initially the 1.6 axi Japanese was targeting the civic prosmatic 1.6 2002 shape since it belongs to that era. It is by far the best liana ever(Japanese imported variant with black and silver interior and 15 inch alloys)
6-Market seems to hate this car as if its a ritual.
7-The same mechanics who require training on liana are doing rather fine when it comes to city and corolla. Now why is that?? after all this generation of cars comes under the EFI , ECU based category.... nearly similar architecture...so why specifically liana when it comes to goofing up... (perhaps xulfiqar can comment best on this)
8-Parts seem v expensive like replacing the clutchplate and pressure plate for 25000rs as you mentioned...

How so is it less tougher then corolla (surely their use is on roads as compared to expectations like metrocab and driving in interior sindh and peshawar/ for that SUVS rule)
Spares are surprisingly expensive (as mentioned my mustafa8228)/Also considering the fact that Suzuki reigns on market economy.
I am pleased to know that your car never broke down and had serious issues.
I second you on your verdict however our comparison was city 2003-5 vs liana 2005-6 so its a rather fair age match.
Parts should always be genuine and maintenance should be from 3s dealer unless you really know someone worth the trust.

Agree with your viewpoint on veryones feelings which is why i requested for the same. happy to see your taste in lianas. i share the same however you have proved it practically. 1.6 auto on petrol surely must be a treat (racing is not my priority however a responsive feel is)
None of my cars ran on cng however why not avail this facility and save up on daily running when you can get a mix of economy and performance in the form of RXI.
Feature wise liana packs a bang for the buck as i always advocate.
As far as resale goes.. whats the worst that will happen? It will go at a slightly lower then market price....
Roadside guddoos have always been the obvious reasons with the cars destruction....I have always maintained my cuore from 3s dealership (though the expensive charges made my blood boil)

5- yes i agree , liana should have been introduced here in 2003 rather than in 2006 when worldwide production of it was proceeded with SX4

7- did u know that whenever u bought a liana , the dealerships used to specifically tell not to wash the engine with water as it will damage cng kit , and once its done it will be doomed forever.. i never washed it with water and everything was fine.. two of my relatives got it just when i got it , their drivers used to wash it quite regularly , with a result that their cars were rubbish in no time (within 3 - 4 years).. i faced no such problem.. and i beleive that is where the problem with EFU starts
8- yes it was a bit expensive , but i didnt search the market for it , just took it to SUZUKI MINIMOTORS , where all its maintenance work was done throughout .. i suppose if i had searched the market , i could have saved a few thousands.. even if u take your city or civic to a 3S dealer for major repairs and sparepart replacemnts , they will rip u off .. for example front disc brake service of city will cost u Rs1500 at Honda Fort

brand new petrol liana invoice is 1461 plus reg cost ,tyre change n bla bla n in less then 2 year it depriciate 1/3 of its valve interesting

I bought it. I like it. No problems on CNG or petrol, but runs like a three legged geriatric donkey on CNG. I run it on petrol, gives me good average. I'm keeping it for the long run. Resale value in 'absolute' terms is less. In 'relative terms' its extraordinarily high. Truth is, Liana's sell a lot, obviously, since you see them on the roads ALL THE TIME.

I use a web based software called Fleetio for my car maintenance. It says my fuel average is ₨ 4.65 Cost/Km on petrol. I don't know if this is good or bad. I used CNG once or twice, but haven't really calculated. Mostly use petrol. Hope this helps.

Also, please tell me any other formula to calculate fuel efficiency and whether mine is ok or not.
