Santro vs Cultus: Which car should I buy?

I am about to start looking for my first ever car inshAllah and need suggestions from all the experts here regarding which car should I go for, Cultus or Santro, I am a bit confused between these two options as I've heard good things about both. Please state your reasons in favor or against both options. It will help me come to a decision inshAllah. My bugdet is 6 to 6.5 lacs but if I can get a "mint condition" car in less than that would be great.

I want to mention here that I am going to learn to drive on this car. I have no experience of maintaining a car before so I want a car which is easily maintainable, parts should be easily available and economical. I want to upgrade to a sedan as soon as I become comfortable in driving so I want the car to have a good resale value so that I can sell it easily in the future inshAllah. The car should be good for a family of 5 members.

Also, please give me tips on how to learn driving quickly and effectively. Should I join a driving school or hire someone to teach me on my own car? Please give suggestions based on your personal experience. I thank all of you guys in advance, PakWheels is the best! =)

for new drivers my advise is keep ur stereo volume low so that u can hear outside voices dont drive fast until u hv proper control on gear sifting and using clutch is the main thing .
before buying used car proper check car to the mechanic.

Go for cultus.
It's easy to maintain,it's willing to take the beating of a new driver eyes closed and parts are easily available everywhere and are cheap. Cultus also sells very easily.

i think you should go for Cultus, its a good family car and its part are easily available.
Santro is also a good option but it has been discontinued and its parts are expensive.

Cultus has good resale value, buy in good condition. Santro has been discontinued since 2008/2009. Japanese cars are also good option.
Only practice make you good driver. Before the proper driving you should pass the driving test through proper channel.

If you are learning...then better go for Mehran.
4 gears forward... hence comparatively easy to learn and drive.
very good and quick in resale.
Easy to maintain..
mechanics available even in the remotest part of your city.
Parts available even with fruit vendors.

As the years go by, with the Grace of Allah Almighty you will buy newer and bigger and advanced cars in your life. But you may not have the chance to enjoy the Mehran experience. The real Pakistani-automotive-experience

SANTRO(EXECUTIVE) vs CULTUS

DRIVE:
Santro's drive and acceleration is much better than that of Cultus

INTERIOR:
Santro's Interior quality is much better than that of Cultus However Cultus is more spacious and has a huge legroom for rear seats as compared to Santro.

PARTS:
Santro's parts are expensive as compared to Cultus's parts.

RESALE:
Santro has a lower resale value as compared to Cultus

Its all upto you. If you prefer power and better drive then go for Santro. If you prefer cheaper parts, high resale and more rear space then go for Cultus.

Thank you so much brothers. All of you have given wonderful advises. I really appreciate all the help. I have decided to go for Cultus inshAllah. Now the only thing left to decide is whether I should go for VXR, VXL or VXR EFI. To me each version has it's own advantage:

1. VXL if fully loaded, hence has more features, which is great as it will be more enjoyable.
2. VXR EFI is the most fuel efficient out of the three, hence I can practice driving more on it in less money. =)
3. VXR is the cheapest of all three, which means less investment for learning to drive.

Which version out of the three do you guys think I should go for?

i dnt think u can get a mint EFI vxr in 650, as u'l be learning driving on the car so go for Vxl (power windows/steering)

Kept both..... both are good at road grip, AC and space - FF Santro gives you trunk....Cultus is bit easy on maintenance..Fuel consumption will be pretty similar....Cultus has a very good market. When buying you will be getting Santro bit cheaper...Santro steering is bit hard..

I would go for cultus just because of the looks...

some people rate Santro higher than cultus in terms of performance. build quality of santro is better...very safe in a head on collusion...good safty features..reinforcement bars in doors and at the front
