People will opt for what is cheapest and best. I last time opted for Japanese used Yokohama tyres as i was very low on budget. Total 4 tyres were for 7k 14inchers made in japan. Still all 4 going strong nearing 1 year on Karachi's roads. new 1 yokohama was of 8k. At that same time the cheapest chinese new tyre or Paki General tyre was 4800+ per tyre. Since we have a majority of low income people, then things are very different in Pakistan .

Also the reconditioned ones. I personally have seen men repairing old complete bald tyres and making new threads and you won't even under that it has been repaired. @abid110 bhai is right due to the low income and poor economy the public usually thinks ke Kam chalna chahiye and don't think of the dangers or cons at all.

Is saving a few bucks worth anyone and their family’s lives? I always wonder how people go for something that they know is dangerous.

Why are imported tyres dangerous? Just because they are allowing people to buy used ones at one-fourth of price of new tyres?

Dangerous is not for imported tyres. Dangerous are those which are either defective or poorly repaired look like new at a fraction of a cost.

Isn't buying an imported tyre of a comparatively lesser known brand a better option than buying a smuggled tyre of a known brand that might be (God Forbid) dangerous for you.

In Pakistan people buy/sell tyre on condition that brand new with plastic paper packing and the threads are there. Tyre should be purchased according to its manufacturing date (clearly mentioned on tyre). The tyre importer pick brand new tyres of 2 to 3 years old from Japan at very cheap rate and sell in Pakistan.

The date stamp can easily be altered to make the tires look recent. Secondly, a tire that is 2-3 years old is fine.
