so xulfiqar, if you state everything here that im thinking about is wrong,cannot work, and stupid, how would you go about it? what config would you youse.

best would to find an old chassis of a berlina - and using it like a british race car, mind you - you would need to rework the entire suspension by hand to get some action. If you are well versed in chassis design you can do it.

I would start with a beetle floor pan as a template and work round it there's only one problem. Beetle floor pans aren't straight even from brand new. Over time they get worse.

The funny bit about them is that the body of the beetle combined with the pan is what makes the structural strength in that car.

It's what makes them famous. I suppose if u really thing about it. Let's press the floor and then will just bolt the body to it. I don't know why I think about the simple beetle a lot. It's basic simple engineering amazes me sometimes.

no - the Golf mk1 and mk2 are the epitome of simple engineering - They even went so far that both side suspension control arms are the same - just flip the ball joint and you are good to go.

I have to disagree bro. You break down a beetle... With hand full of tools. And engine. Under 10 mins. It's out. Plus u can start it in 10 mins on bench. Maybe it's just me but the bug has that attraction .. The funny thing I hate driving one..

Why not just go with no floor pan at all?
just a bunch of chassis-supporting steel tubes , on which the seat will be placed, and feet etc etc.
so you can see the ground, but you can also sit.
i assume that will get rid of the bending problem.
but if the req no happens to be on the bottom....

The problem is how are going to bend the tubes.. Have u got some one in mind. To make a space frame. U need proper measuring tools lasers. Even a couple of mil out you will be crabbing down the road. The reason I mentioned beetle floor pan is its a starting point. You can use any part of it to start your build.

thats what i was saying.. but you will need a true flat surface... like those in manufacturing companies.. for laying out all the pipes as you want.. draw up the chassis on that surface by outlining where the pipes will be... measure measure measure. then lay down the pipes on those lines.. again measure measure measure. use verniers, micrometers, measuring tapes. when done measuring tack weld the pipes. just one tak per joint. just to see how the frame will look like.

again adjust to perfection. then securely clamp the pipes with c clamps to avoid distortion when welding.. best if you have a mig welder with auto wire feeding spool.. makes some really clean fine welds.

I found a local mechanic who built a classic mini replica and has done fwd to rwd conversions. He found me a old 90s or something corolla chassis with a gearbox and red. But the problem is that is seems.....HUGE. not very good for a small off roader/racecar. So I talked to him a bit more. He said a old sports car chassis might be available. Not sure which model. But he did ask to see a model of what I wanted to get an idea if its possiblr

no corolla ever came with a split frame, all were unibody cars.

what you are trying to build is a tube frame tub. If YOU yourself are good in designing such and can properly weld fishmouth joints and have access to a mandrel bender and a hydraulic jig to smooth the pipes, then go for it - If you are trying to buy this as a service, your money will be lost, I can guarantee you that.

the easiest way to get that is the way i shall go.

In other news....the sports car i was talking about before? it turned out to be a old aston martin. dont know which one, will get back here when i have more info.

This is the best condition i gor it in until my exams started and it was literally packed and parked in the back lawn. I've started working on it again and inshAllah by the time im done (not any time soon :P) it'll look like a exocet.

that suspension looks like a horror movie to me, the rack is literally sitting uptop and turning the struts - doesnt look too promising for cornering.

Does the front use control arms or is it axle beam?
