@Muhammad Ahmed:
first of all snow leapords dont live at this altitute. in summers they woul simply die of heat. they live beyond a certain altitude (which is more than that of sharan) seconldy i cannot comment on the pic. i dont think its a snow leapord. i have seen one wild caught in Naltar. thirdly the bear have existed in Kaghan valley along time ago. not these days coz i have never seen or even heard of such an encounter in recent years.there has never been a single case of a snow leapord attackinga human so no worries there as well. dekho odd incidences ho saktay hain islamabad may bhe leapord a jatay hai kabhi kabhi. these r very isolated incidents and u cannot count on them. the only big animal u can encounter (i ur lucky or unlucky i dont know) is the common leapord. i have been to sharan and walked in the forest also. that place is frequenlty filled with ppl and animals tend to run away from such places. i am damn sure u have 95% chance of not seeing any animal there.SNOW LEAPORD AND BEAR TU WAHAN HAI HI NAI I AM SURE
@Asif Bro My dear trekker freind Omar Javiad with the name of Adventurer on flickr have seen a black bear with his own eyes in Dadar valley from Saran Pass in year 2009 i think. Yar mje itna confirm hai kay Sharan say lay ker jo dense forest Makra or Pare tak hai un mein lazmi snow leopard to hain ... i am damn sure aub mje yeh btain kay locals to kabhi dokha nae kha saktay na.. to abe mein winter survival per gaya tha to Makra Base Camp kay pass foot step thay jo ek sath wali mountain say a rahay thay or hamaray samnay wale mountain tak chalay gaye. according to our guide those foot steps are of snow leopard. May be summer mein high areas mein chalay jatay hon but hotay zarur hain snow leopard.
han yes in winters isolated incidents ho saktay hain snow leapord encounter kay but not in summers yara. i have seen leapord with my own eyes in salt range also. but these r very rare incidences man. u cannot expect to c such a creature there. i know omer Adventurer. i think he went in winters coz he love of season. mayb tab us nay dekha ho. leapord tu giliat may itnay hai yar. but encounter is very rare. the footsteps u could have seen mite be of common leapord man. snow leapord ka winters may bhe tab he possible hai if its not getting any prey on high altidute. yara locals tu shortay bhe hai daramatize bhe kartay hai batoon ko. sat siri mala kay waqt mujhay kia kia baten nai sunai unho nay, sir wahan makhlookay hain janwar hain yey ho ga wo ho jay ga. they also try to scare ppl that they go back etc.
Please advise, can i go with my family to sharan in the last week of may, what will be the weather?
@aakhlaque:
yes u can go with family to sharan but weather will be very cold.
In winter snow leapord in found in Galyat area and they descends to lower altitude.. as seen board at nathia gali lala zar park.
I have also heard in Nathia Gali, that in winters when common leopord dont find any hunt/shikar they often found near human settlments.
This might be a marmoot.
2ndly there is strange circle on the snow around this animal/or some stone.
are the roads open to kaghan ?
Yes. way to kaghan naran is open now. My friend is came back from naran at 9-5-11.
As far as concern to snow leopard. There are exist in kaghan naran valley. but ran away from humans. My friend a local of Naran told me, they saw snow leopard several times. They called it some thing else in their native language. Most of snow leopard and bears are moved to other placed like dudipatsar side. When i was at dudipatsar lake, one fellow from other tracking party told me he saw a loin type animal behind the dudipatsar lake mountain when he was tried to mode towards siral lake.
Offcourse it will be open now. It was open in January as well. See the picture that I took from my hotel balcony in Jan 2011
Ways were closed in end of jan and in feb...
bhiya issi year feb main main baqalam khud sharan gaya tha,, couldnt camp there,, 2km pehley hi stop ho gaya
snow storm main phans gaya tha to raat jabra per guzari...
anyways, if you want to go, u will go till your limit...
Rana Sb, do you want to see more pictures to confirm that I was in Kaghan valley during Jan this year?
wow its really beautiful place, feel great to see the attractive pictures, thanks
Hello everyone!I am planning to visit sharan forest in mid November. Will it be accessible during this time?
Secondly, how much the jeep ride could cost if we are only two people and considering that it will be an off season? Will it be safe as well if only two people go there?
