No sir, its also API-SN now!

dear at which pump is this rating available??
i checked recently in Rawalpindi at:
1) Shell pump opposite PC hotel wala road ..
2) Shell Pump near Shifa Eye Hospital opposite DHA-1
both had Helix HX5 with SG rating...
and if possible can u tell about their HX3 grading/rates and prices for both 3 and 4 litres.........thanx

yesterday got the oil change of my car shell helix ultra 5w40 is available
so far only helix plus 10w40 and helix hx5 are upgraded to helix plus 5w30 api sn and 10w40 synthetic so far
i wish they should launch another helix ultra 5w30 instead of replacing 5w40 as it suits are enviornment

yesterday got the oil change of my car shell helix ultra 5w40 is available
so far only helix plus 10w40 and helix hx5 are upgraded to helix plus 5w30 api sn and 10w40 synthetic so far
i wish they should launch another helix ultra 5w30 instead of replacing 5w40 as it suits are enviornment

5W-30 is absolutely ok for our summers. 30 means less additives, 40 means more additives.....the more the additives the more are chances of sludge in the engine. now pls don't quote Mobil here, because their 5W-50 is true synthetic. i myself am thinking of switcing to 5W-30 instead of 10W-40.

Caltex's Havoline oils have also been upgraded in a similar manner. Their SL grade oil is now SM and probably at a lower viscosity grade.

Among mineral oils their 10W30 is API SM only however 20w50 regular and 20w50 CNG are still API SG:'(

Yesterday, i visited Metro Islamabad where i observed that Total 5000 API-SL (semi-synthetic) is sold for very reasonable price. What you people say about TOTAL oils. I have experience of using TOTAL in my bikes and found it nice oil.

Another change i noted at Metro was that it now had ZIC oils also. I think this is good thing to get rid of fake ZIC oils in the market.

Total and PSO etc arent reputable oils...no match for Shell Helix series....ZIC is good if purchased from reliable vendor...as ZICs are faked the most

total 5000 as you mentioned is api sl where as shell zic and havoline 5w40 is api sn so they are better than total
only shell ,caltex 20w50 oils are api sg hope they get upgraded to api sm soon

As I use Castrol Magnetic in my car and its API-SL, i had emailed to Castrol people in England asking them why they don't do this in Pakistan. In return they asked their representative in Pakistan who contacted me in these words:

i talked to one of their rep Ali Hassan in Islamabad on telephone, about a year ago and asked them few questions regarding castrol magnatec and GTX as being ancient technology, although he was helpful , but as an organization they didnt seem to be bothered..
to be true although they were good oils previously but cause of poor marketing & old technology they ve lost a big chunk of their market share..
Lets hope sense prevails and they bring their API SN or at least API SM range in Pakistan..

Which oil will you consider good among ZIC and shell? Both are good? ZIC got most of the oil is API SN. Which range of shell is of mineral ?

20w50 of shell is true mineral oil..

till the very recent upgradation both red packing 20w-50 (Helix HX3) and Yellow packing 10W-40 (Helix HX5) were true mineral oils (in some petrol pumps still available with the same previous grading i,e. pure mineral oil)

Me using shell helix ultra 5W-40 and no problem at all, will shift to 5W-30.
Does anyony know why there is so much price difference when u buy this packet from shell pump and Metro

Which oils in the market have a 20w-50 or 10w-50 sort of viscosity? I need a viscous oil for an old worn out engine...

for older and tired ,oil reducing engines try Shell Helix HX3 (red packing)..its 20W-50.........with drain interval = 2500 km maximum. ........ you may also try Shell Helix HX5 (yellow pack), comes in 10w-40...works good for older noisy engines..drain interval 3000 maximum.
