I have seen people pouring 4L full pack of engine oil, neither less, nor more, and irrespective they own 1.3L Corolla (which requires at max. 3.7L engine oil with filter change), or 1.8L Corolla (which requires 4.2L engine oil with filter change).

For 1.3L Corolla, it may not be true, as its above the normal range. May not be evident on dipstick, but its overfill, because you know that you are pouring more than the OEM specified quantity.

User manual also states that further filling is required only if oil mark is below or nearing lower end of dipstick mark

Engine total oil capacity when dry is 4.7L: New engine from factory.
If you change oil/oil filter then exact 4.2L is required.
If you change oil only without filter then 3.9L is required.

This stands correct for 1zrfe 1.6, 2zrfe 1.8 and 3zrfe 2.0 engines.

I'm doing the same. I have a pack of plastic 50ml beakers which I purchased from aliexpress in like 1.5$.
I add 200ml oil in a 4L can by myself at home, oil guys don't need to take any measurements then while pouring oil in my car.

The best way is drum dispenser where 4.2 litre is dispensed through the digital dispenser.

Overfilling is bad. Any level between the marks on the dipstick is fine; around half-way is ideal.

Motor Oil service life is specified in terms of Mileage (e.g 5000km) or Duration (e.g 6 months). You people must have the experience of maintaining your vehicle from 3S dealer or any modern oil change service. After 6 months, 3S Dealer will keep calling and informing you, that your oil change is due, even if your vehicle has just ran for 2000 km. I want to bring two things under discussion:-

1.) My vehicles runs much less than 5000km in 6 months. Do i really need to get the oil changed after 6 months even if it has run for about 3000 km?
2.) What is the shelf life after Motor Oil can is opened? Like if i buy 1L can of, lets say Total Quartz and fill only 200ml. After 6 months again i fill 200ml from this can, in the same way will it still be effective on 5th Oil change (After 2 years)?

U can use the remaining oil with next oil change and keep the extra from.new can...shelf life will be not be an issue anymore

I first filled 4 liters Total 0w-20 and it was between half and full marks on dipstick. Then for the peace of mind I added exact 200 mls and now it is showing level well above full mark even after 5,000 kms.

I know many people who are regularly filling just 4 liters in 2zr-fe and they have not faced any issues in two, three years.

200 mls is just a small quantity that it would not harm anything, but still I would keep going for extra 200 mls.

Clockwise rotate dipstick and put it inside. Tip of dipstick should be facing towards engine not away from it.
You will get accurate level next morning.

I would suggest to go for Total; Total Quartz 9000 future series 5w-30. Its fully synthetic engine oil.

Shell 5w-30 available here locally is semi synthetic.

By the way, what's the engine health of your car? Do you feel / observe any anomalies? Like oil reduction, etc.?

engine is in good condition, no reduction in oil but its giving less than 13km/L average these days and feels more under powered. I have been using toyota 10w-40 previously.

As your engine is fine, and you are not facing any oil reduction issues, so there is no point in using 10w-40.

IMO, 5w-20, 5w-30 and at max. 10w-30, would work absolutely fine in your car's engine, but start in the reverse order.

From next oil change, you should first come to 10w-30. If it behaves absolutely fine, there are no oil consumption issues, etc. then from next oil change, switch to 5w-30. If it also behaves well, then lastly, switch to 5w-20, but do not go below it (like 0w-20). If you ever face oil consumption issues, then switch in the reverse order (like if on 5w-20, then first come to 5w-30, and then 10w-30)

IMO, 5w-30 would best suit (10w-30 may still prove thick, and 5w-20 may reduce oil). Still, there is no harm in trying, and try in the pattern which I have mentioned.

Prefer that oil which is fully synthetic, from some reputed brand, and 100% authentic. It must also meet API SN / SN+, and / or ILSAC GF-5 criteria. Fancy, expensive, imported engine oils may be avoided.

5w-20: Shell and ZIC

5w-30: Total and KIXX

10w-30; Caltex / Havoline only!

Besides thick engine oil, other factors are also there, including (but not limited to):

1. Humidity (an important factor nowadays, but nothing can be done about it. In winters, fuel efficiency is slightly better, for the same driving conditions. When AC is ON, more load on engine besides humidity, so drop in fuel efficiency).
2. Air filter, spark plugs, throttle body, catalytic converter, fuel injectors, etc. may be needing thorough cleaning / replacement (whichever applies), i.e. your car may be needing tuning, if not done previously.
3. Proper tyre pressure, wheels balancing, alignment, etc. (although not directly related, but still, I read somewhere, that they also play role)
4. Let go of any additional weight in the car.
5. Driving with soft pedal, not abrupt braking, and sudden acceleration, etc.

By following above steps, I believe, your fuel efficiency will increase.

My 2005 civic has 176000 kms on the odo and I use Total 5w30 with 7000 kms drain interval.

No issues Alhamdolilla.

its the best choice. Even my civic 2005 has 172000 kms on odo and I am using pso 5w30 fully synthetic
