Mehran shifter boot is ripped in multiple places, have been told that it isn't a big issue and if replaced would require a new gear seal too.
Is it worth replacing the boot at the cost of a new seal? An example of the boot below (not mine)
Yes do get it replaced. Else dirt and dust will slowly destroy bushing and then make way inside transmission.
I've been told that changing boot would destroy gear seal. That when there is seepage from seal then change boot and seal.
So with seal intact and boot ripped would there be anything getting into the transmission?
I am not sure about construction of Mehran transmission. Is the boot and seal 1 part? share some closeups of the boot.
No, they're seperate parts. Can't lift car so no pics available
If its a seprate part, can be replaced from outside. Why would the seal be destroyed. Visit a better mechanic. These cheap mechanics are not interested in preventive maintainance and dont have the brain to forsee the damage because of it.
The rod which the boot is on goes into the seal, so I'm guessing removing the rod may loosen the gear seal which may be their concern?
I've gotten gear lever foundation and gear kit changed, was great for two days now the gears are rough and loose. It happened two weeks ago which got me to change them, seems to happen after someone test drives my car.
What could be the cause?
What do you mean by gear kit? the bushings? Smashing the gears and resting hand on the lever do cause damage. In your case, what quality were the new bushings? The easily available ones are already trash.
The bushing with the little T plastic thing that's on the gear lever rod which is called the gear kit.
Managed to fix gears by doing some adjustment on gears from under the car.
Get it changed asap, If Gear seal is leaking change it too, its an easy job for mechanics.
