if ur at red light and trasn is at D then the engine is contantly trying to move but is forcefully stopped due to brakes. so its more like engine power is being wasted so why not put it in N and give some rest to engine.
for the first point i totally agree now that during coasting trans shd not be shifted to N instead it shd leave idol... but this red light myth still needs to be busted
