Shifting from N to D?

Salam everybody

Last night I was going with my friends on motorway.I was driving Honda Civic automatic transmission in D3 approximately at the speed of 100km/h, I intended to shift it to D but mistakenly I shifted it to N. Any how I pressed brake padel lightly and shifted it to D.
My friend sitting besides me told me that its very dangerous for the transmission, to shift a moving car from N to D.Even we should not shift it from N to D without pressing brake padel when our car is standing still.
My question is that whether my friend was right? If yes then what should we do in such type of situations whether we should stop the car for shifting it to D?
I need some experts opinion.
As far as I am concerned I think he was right because when I shifted it to D the car jerked.
Farther tell me that whether I can shift the lever from D to N in a moving car?

As long as you dont touch the gas, it shouldn't be problem, I do it all the time.

I pressed the brake padel slightly but even then it jerked.

I don't know if its harmful or not but i do it while switching to petrol or cng.

u can do it, D to N, N to D, what ever at what ever speed.
just dont over rev the engine before shifting to D

brother i drive a se saloon automatic 2007 model, and i continusely switch from L to 2 to d, and i my car is fine with it. it doesnt jerk nor does it do anything. if your cars in N and you need to switch to D, then dont press the brake nor the excelerattion, and just put it in D. obviously the car would jerk becuase the car just came into a gear, from nuetral!

and u dont have to press the brake padel,
that is just for P for locking or unlocking the transmission.

well, my 1996 Honda Accord gives a very brief jerk when shifting from N to D, but it doesn't damage the tranny or anything, just don't press accelerator and brake pedal while doing it as REDBULL_ar stated.

yes you can but without reving the engine means without pressing accelerator

i agree with redbull_ar and rohaan, but honestly i don't advise it to anyone because if there is ANY load on the tranny or engine then there will be jerking which will eventually (after many times) lead to irreperable damage

and Prosmatic transmission is a bit sensitive and is only good when proper care is taken in driving style and mantainance

sir i kept 2005 civic prosmatec for a long time i used to keep it shifting from d to d3 eack to d to race other cars it doesnot matters if u change the gear while moving jitni marzi speed per gear shift karein bus dont take it to R or P .......it gave a jerk because when u turn it to D it comes on a smooth drive and in D3 it is changing gear at high rpms....

its dosent matter
bcuz torque convertor hota hai automatic cars mein
gears ko kuch bhi nai hota
and when u shift N to D above 100 Km/h
the gearbox automatically shifts u to the top gear

And you should know that you can shift from N to D , D to N , D3 to D and D2 to D3 without pressing the brake pedal. Its safe...

In pakistan people have a habit of creating myths..

and people down here are saying they use d3 to race other cars my god..

D3 means car will only use 3 gears 1st 2nd 3rd..

D2 means 1st and 2nd only

D1 means 1st only
