Shifting from sgo 10-40 ultimate to premium

Dear guys my alto 2011 was consuming oil i was putting ultimate but now i have shifted to sgo 10-40 premium one .is this desicion good because company recomends this oil in this potohar engine

It’s better to get your car engine checked to determine the reason for reduction in engine oil.

The difference between the two oils is the API classification: Suzuki SGO Ultimate 10W40 is based on current classification API SM, while SGO Premium 10W40 is based on obsolete classification API SG (outdated technology of 1988). By changing the oil type you have downgraded to lower specs oil.

Bro u r rite but alto has got engine of potohar which is 1988 tech engine or even older thts why company recommends sgo 10-40 premium because it has got more ZDDPs than ultimte one

Before changing oil grade i also changed its pcv valve but it was of no use

Yes you are right API SG classification oil can be used in 1988 tech engine. But also note that an API SM grade oil is downward compatible and will not do any harm to the engine.

Yeah it wont do any harm but its not viscous enough to handle heat of this old school engine

People use wrong oils in wrong engine thinking more expensive the better but one needs to understand science of oil and engine before pouring

Our mechanics r most illetirate guys in the world they always suggest wrong grade oils one must stick to companys owner manual

There is no difference in the viscosity as both being 10W-40. In fact Suzuki recommends either the SGO Ultimate or Premium for the newer cars like Wagon R However, due to the old technology of your car engine the manufacturer may recommend the older API SG grade due to its ZDDP content. In that case using a new API grade any not have any substantial advantage rather a waste of money

i am using zic x7 api sn grade 10W40 synethic oil in my alto 2011
first time forcefully i had to change the oil at 3000 km bcz oil level droped to low level
now again i use same oil but same problem
my mechanic recommend me to use havoline 20w50 minral oil

Is your engine seals leaking or engine oil burnt? I changed from 20w50 SG to 20w50 SL grade and got good results. I want to shift on 10w40 SL semi santhatic. Should I shift or not kindly recommend
