Should car be left for one minute after starting the car

Aoa experts,
One of my friends say that car should not be moved after few munutes when you start the car.
Is this true
please share your expertise

Are we talking about modern cars? (anything within the last 24 years) In that case, there is no need to wait a few minutes. I personally like to give the car 10-20 seconds before I shift or do anything, which might even be unnecessary. However, it is important to not drive the car hard (high rpms, quick acceleration) before the car is warmed up. So the most efficient way would be to start it and then drive a little cautiously until the engine is warmed up.

The idea to not move the car is to ensure that the fluids are dispersing everywhere, however that is a matter of seconds and does not require you to wait.

Regular gasoline or diesel engines needs at-least 10-30 seconds for oil to fully circulate and reach all the internal parts of engine where lubrication is needed.

After 30 seconds, you may drive it but with slow speed only at-least for first half kilometer. After that you can drive it normally as per your routine. But yes first 10-30 seconds are important for proper lubrication.

Do you drive peter engines?

Any positive displacement oil pump will ram the oil galleries chock full of oil in about 1 second flat. Unless you have a car with mineral oil in Yakutia. (In which case the engine will be frozen solid and unable to start)

Startup and drive gently till the coolant temperature is at middle of gauge (fully warmed up)

Then you can drive it normally (with full power too)

What about air conditioner. Should we switch ac on right away after start or wait for blue light to go.

I read it in the manual of 2008 model Passo with 1KR and 1993 model of Crown with 2JZ.
OEM has mentioned there to give at-least 10-30 seconds before driving. Both manuals were given alongwith cars, otherwise I must share a photo of that page for your ref.

If I remember correctly there was a thread named as Idling the car or Idle the car or similar. I believe it was somewhere in 2008/9. And there you mentioned the same too i-e to give it few seconds before driving.
I will try to find in the older posts.

BTW, in Yakutia they never shut off the engines in winter outside on roads. And also they park the cars in controlled temperature garages too because it helps to fire up the engine later.

You can run the ac with no problem,

The only reason “warmup” is used to make sure the engine is evenly heated up to thermostatic operating temperature, this way the metals have expanded properly and the lube oil is hot and fluid and devoid of moisture.

What I have observed is when you start the car in the morning, idle RPM are above 1.5, wait for 10-15 secs and let the idle RPM come under 1 then you're safe to go.
I might be wrong in my practice.

my small car gives 2K rpms at cold start. But within 20-30 seconds, it comes to 1.2-1.4 rpms
and as soon as i shift it in D, the rpms drop to 800 and i start moving it gently for 1 km atleast.

Jeeps starts with 1.6-1.8 rpms but soon settles at 1K rpm in a minute time and then i start moving it.

This is a debate where both sides (warmup crew and non warm up crew) will fight each other forever. It's the same for those who say 'prefill oil filters vs. don't prefill your oil filter'.

Now, here in Pakistan, it really doesn't matter. If you are living in subzero temps where it's -45 Celsius, yes you should give your car some time to warm up.

Here, after a cold start, I personally prefer to wait the 15 seconds till high idle comes down to 'normal' and start driving lightly until the temp gauge is at normal op temp.

When warm, you don't need to wait.

Any modern japanese engine coolant warms up within 1 minute at max, at that time you are good to go

The way its seen in real world is that you obviously live in a resi area and have to get to a high speed road, it will take you about 3 to 5 minutes on average to get there, by that time you are already hot and ready to apply power from the engine.

So you start up, perform garage shift under 5 seconds (oil already has reached cyl head by 1 second), move vehicle and then perform mode shift to set off.

Now this wont apply if you live on a highway (RIP your life), just take it easy for the first kilometer then you would be upto full temperature to drive normally.

Make sure your drive is more than 20 minutes long at least to boil off moisture from the oil, if it isnt then change oil on severe usage interval.
