Should I buy Honda Civic EX 1995

Hi, I've been always a fan of Honda Civic 1991-1995 (dolphin). I Just started my career and made my mind to buy it. I have all the information about fuel consumption, engine, talked to couple of sellers, found a clean car and now when I'm about to buy it everyone around me (family and friends) started saying "buhat purani gari he mahinay ka 20k, 25k kharcha nikla kre gi (petrol k ilawa)"

Can any old car owner or old civic owner give me suggestions. Is this true what people are saying?

Depends on your running and condition of the car it's hard to find a good condition car
But remember one thing what ever you spent on that car you won't get it back at the time of selling it
If engine suspension shocks are in good condition to itna kam nahi nikalay ge
I have kept this car and sold recently few months back
Make sure to check each and every thing before buying it if possible take your Mechanic for detail Inspetion
Monthly Exp would be around 5k running Oil change Oil filter service etc

get a car with a good body and all the interior bits.

try to get it as cheap as possible.

in about 40k, you can redo complete suspension with brand new parts (mix of japanese, thailand, taiwan)

these will easily last you a long time if you have good roads.

If you live in Karachi, you should know that people who keep dolphin ferio (Japanese dolphin), most of them keep it well maintained or give it a sporty look. Yes, the car with stock engine will be a hard nut to crack, but a clean dophin can be found with an engine swap. Price range can be between 4.5 to 6 depending upon its condition and additional accessories.

Bro I was in your position and got a 1999 civic for really cheap and ignored such naysayers.
Over the course of a year here’s what I’ve learnt.
If I could redo my decision I would still buy the “old Honda”
But I would only be particular about one thing.
The car should be well maintained and you want to make absolutely sure of this because a neglected car will give you tiny issues for no reason like the wipers stop working or there’s rust in the car or the fuel gauge doesn’t work or the radiator thermostat was never changed and jams or the radiator fan stops working or the power windows barely work etc etc.
I’d buy from a person who had cared for the car and I’ve realized how I could spot a neglected car.
If it’s a manual ask when the gear oil was changed , if they care for the car they’ll tell you it was changed recently or if they tell you they don’t remember or if they don’t know they likely didn’t bother enough for that car
I firmly believe that a well kept and maintained 25 yr old car is more reliable than a neglected 5 yr old car.
So try to be very specific
1. check how the suspension is and if there are lots of sounds. You don’t want that because it’ll lead to many repairs even if they’re cheap khwari to hogi.
Stuff like if the trailing arm bushes have been changed might show that the person maintained the car usually people don’t bother with those.
2. Check the engine do a cold start if possible - check for smoke from the exhaust - smell of the car running - rev it listen for rod knock or crank noise etc - open the oil cap (YouTube how to check an engine from the oil cap and the tapet covers insides. Check the oil and that it’s not too dark or that it’s not too low. If an auto transmission then smell the gear oil it shouldn’t smell burnt if it does leave that car.
3. Check the engine bay and look for signs of neglect or poor maintenance , missing caps of wiper fluid bottle missing or broken radiator overflow bottle , spilt battery acid marks or rust or old cracked engine mounts.
4. The interior of the car will tell you a lot and a lot about the owner , a clean and well kept interior with no signs of abuse usually means an owner that cared for the car.
Cigarette burns , broken buttons , not functioning buttons show that the car was just a khota for them
5. Body wise it’s upto you but do make sure the car hasn’t been accidented (take a denter with you!)

Also do not buy a car that was a company car at any point it’ll be used rough and poorly.
Also check the file and how many owners shes had (the less the better)

For how much you got your 1999 civic? Cheap ones always cost you more in the end so its better to buy a good condition one.

its a good suggestion... same can be done with engine/transmission/wiring..

Yeah it’s better to buy abit expensive but my plans for the car required a cheap car since I don’t want a showroom car I wanted to make a “track build” that looked clean so genuine paint etc didn’t matter to me.

Oops i would rather opt for a clean 95 in that budget. Clean 99-00 trouble free cars are in range of 7-8 lakhs and clean 96-98 are for 6-7 lakh range. Btw what are the issues you are facing with this ride?

Honestly right now. Alhamdulilah none what so ever. MashaAllah
I got a better deal than it seems.
But yeah tiny issues come up now and then. The problems I mentioned were to guide the guy I haven’t had this many but small stuff here and there gets annoying at times.
The body needs some work but currently just waiting on funds for an h22.

What would be better an h22 ek or a k24a2 ek ?
I know h is cheaper

H22 is better for EK. If you had ES i would have recommended you K20 or K24.

i have had none left since marriage and kids.

otherwise i used to sit around mechanics a lot, or was working my self on the car.

i have a 1996 civic, i know every inch of the car wiring and all since its been in my family since new.
i recently got in registered in my own name just to keep documentation clear.

but honestly now i feel i am neglecting the car, because i now have limited time and limited cash..

some parts i just bought

2x honda thailand brake discs for Rs 2500 ea
tappet cover packing local for rs 400 (japani is rs1450)
tappet cover bolt washers Rs 350

things to do
got quotation for new tokiko shock absorbers front for Rs 8000 for 02 front ones.
i guess similar cost for the rear ones.

buy a power steering pump rebuild kit and do a DIY, dont trust mechanics. right now the pump is leaking slightly and spraying oil all over the car.

the complete front suspension bushing set will cost about Rs 5000, similar cost for the back end. RBI thailand bushes.
genuine honda bushes cost will make you cry.

fun fact: for the rear I have only replaced the Big trailing mount bushes, all the other bushes are still the original ones since 1996. the shocks are also original ones, repaired once about 2 years ago. they are hard as rock now though

Well take someone experienced with you and have it inspected, especially side pillars, doors, their panels, fenders, roof bumpers and engine room. if it's a clean baby then it should cost you around 4.5 max. plus you may spend a few bucks extra on it since it's an old car which may go up to 30-50K. It would be great if you posted its photos. .
