If you start comparing cars like big screen TVs in a display shop where a 40" is next to a 48" which is next to a 50", you'll arrive at a decision very late. If you are completely blank, you should choose a category and it will be easier for the rest of us to give you a few options, though there aren't much. Budget, needs, ease/ cost of maintenance and ownership, fuel consumption are major factors to consider. Design, build quality follow. It all depends upon your priorities.
In 1000cc category, I'd suggest Vitz. I don't like the engine sound but the car checks so many boxes that the one thing that I don't like doesn't matter any more. But be very sure you are buying what you are paying for, not some rattle can with a notoriously reversed odometer. Best of luck.
