other solutions can be........
1 - introduce a signal/ speed breaker........... Not recomended, cause purpose is not to break rhythmic flow of traffic,
2 - putting an overhead bridge........ pedestrians usually dont use them and end up hitting cars while jaywalking. examples are everywhere, from faizabad, shamsabad, hardly 50 % of the pedestrians use them, 7th Avenue you can see youself hardly 20% of the padestrians using them.... others stil jaywalking and a risk to end up hitting traffic...! if you wanto install an overhead bridge then seal-off all possible means of jaywalking
3- introduction of a pedestrian under pass.........I would recomend it case of following reasons, ------------ easy crossing as you have to go down only 10-12 ft rather than 22-24 ft in case of over head,
------------- its a covered crossing and from harsh weathers like ours its a natural protective way against blazing sun, cold winds,
------------- CDA can itroduce smaller shops markets underneath these pedestrian bridges, small tuck shops offers water, cold drinks, some cold water dispensers can help a lot.
------------- these under passes for pedestrains can be self sufficient and generate revenue for CDA.
-------------- an underpass does nt effect the srenity and doest obstrut in views of the city, gives a feeling of openess,
-------------- i think the cost of making a steel bridge(over head , steel si the most costly building material in pakistan) will be the same as making an underpass for pedestrian, moreover it will be offereing revenue for CDA....
