Speed Camera Detectors

i recently got a speed camera detector installed in my car. its a great help in getting a forewarning of the presence of roadside bandits
is it illegal to use them in pakistan?
all the cameras tht i have encountered were laser assisted speed guns, anybody having information on what other bands highway police employ? There is another thing tht i want to share, at and around most of the traffic signals i get this k band transmission which i presume comes from the auto focus mechanism of security cameras installed on traffic signals. also i get x band transmissions every once in a while, dont know where they come from.
The fixed speed guns on 7th avenue also employ k band transmission...........

these detectors sometimes give false alerts ... like near the ISI building at the corner of 7th avenue, and sometimes from cell fone towers as well.

i once saw a device that ws shown on tv.though there r many detectors of such sort available in many parts of the world.they r legal.but there ws 1 particular device dat transmits an counter signal in response to a speed gun signal and jams the speed gun readings!!and gives a an error!anybody heard of such a device?

what if the speed cams are working and your cam detector fails to warn you ???

well detector is not fail safe and i must say i am looking for a jammer thats the ultimate thing for pakistan they will never know

you are referring to a jammer. Yes it exists, but its more costly.

jammers r illegal..where as camera detactors r allowed in few countries...dont remamber but a saw a full documentry on BBC

As Rozz pointed out, JAMMERS- something which interferes with police operations- are illegal. Detectors aren't.

My experience sez that the cops in Blue (punjab police) know the function of this device. Sometime back i was pulled over on kashmir highway-golra mor roundabout for their routine inspection; everything came through just fine but one of their "ustaad jee" came to me and asked "ae ki dadoo jaye shay rakhi ae?" i got nervous and said "bhai, cd player ke saath aata hai, remote control receiver hai" and he was like "mennu topi pehna reya ae..? sohneyo, saanu sara pata honda ae ke ae ki shay ae, traffic police wala honda mein te tennu pharda fir" then he smiled at me and said "jaao beta" :-S

guys i think detector is fail safe, it gives u the warning if radiation received is in its bandwidth.....jammer, well it would be hell of fun to see bonkus on the faces of cops when a car zooms past at 160 and they get 60 on their screec :)))

surf: yara the detector covers a wide bandwidth, for instance mine catches k, x bands and laser. if the radiation is in the bandwidth it will set off an alarm, whether its from a camera or some other sensor it wont care. and near the isi building, whoa.....i guess they must have a lot of electromagnetic shit going on in there......
