Split AC PCB Fried

Hi,

I tried to turn on my 5 yr old Mitsubishi the firs time in this season and It simply wouldn't turn on, using the remote control or the indoor unit buttons.

An AC fitting guy has suggested ( after inspecting it with a tester) that the PCB board has fried due to a surge.

It does make sense because this unit is installed without a 15amp switch (Direct).

Anyone has any idea how the PCB works and what the repair charges might be like?

A relative of mine had the same problem with their Mitsubishi split. It was an old model. The original PCB was expensive so they got a Chinese replacement and I think they also had to change the remote because the original remote would not work with the new PCB. I don't remember the cost, it happened several years ago.

The PCB contains the electronics that control the fan, compressor on/off operation, sleep mode, remote and other functions. Try to get it repaired, if it doesn't work, then replace it.

Thanks alot whiteangel. I guess I'll have to get it repaired. I've been quoted anything between Rs. 2500 - Rs. 4500 by an AC technician.

It depends on what the fault is. Some PCB parts like resistors are really cheap Rs.10 - Rs.20. Some ICs can be more expensive. I doubt any part would be more than Rs.500. But don't expect it to be fixed in Rs.1000, because the electrician will send it to someone who deals in electronics to fix this and both will take a cut from the job.

So if the actual repair cost is Rs. 500, the electronics person is going to charge Rs. 1500, the electrician will claim it cost Rs. 3000 to fix the PCB. These people don't charge according to the actual repair cost. The price they will charge depends on the price of replacing the PCB with a new one. So if a new one costs Rs. 5000 he might charge you 30% less for fixing it.

It might also be worthwhile to search for a used PCB, you might be able to find one from a shop that buys or deals in used air-conditioners.

Totally agree with every word of yours bro. I'm actually new to these split ac's to i could be considered a hen in this case.

Probably going to find a market where I can gather more info on this.

I installed a chinese PCB in my LG they are no good. Either have the original repaired or buy a new one which is original.
