Taking shots
1- Put camera on tripod.
2- Do some test shots for 30 sec exposures to determine which ISO gives u the right balance between noise and stars captured.
3- Best is cable release intervalometer to set it for continuous shots till battery lasts or the time u want otherwise atleast have wireless remote.
4- Once your settings are final, make sure your tripod is steady and won't move at all.
5- Keep IS off
6- Now start taking shots till the time u want.
7- My settings were ISO 800 with 30 sec exposures at 14mm f2.8
8- Keep minimum interval in between the shots and preferably not more than 2 sec
Post Processing
1- If shooting RAW then convert your RAW files to JPEG
2- Resize JPEGs to smaller sizes like i used 1500x1000 pixels. You can also process large files if u want.
3- One important thing .... give numbering to your images in the sequence they were taken when u r saving them.
4- Download and extract Star StaX. Its free and no install required.
5- Open Star StaX and upload your images and process them. It will give u the final output image.
6- Save final image as JPEG.
