can somebody throw light on the meaning of star symbol, like 1 , 2 ,3 . or 4 stars on sticker in a cornor at the back screen of japanese imported used cars.

i think they have something to do with emission control and environment friendliness!

Those indicate the Grade of the car.

and i think they are the auction grade of the car, not the package of the car like FL or something else.
