Starting a Dairy Farm! Advice and Precautions! Is it Good Value for Money

Dear PWs,

I once again need your advice regarding the above business. I visited one farm today with about 50 European Cows and the profit was in 7 figures/month according to the owner. I have the land available in Kashmir but need advice about which breed is most valuable in terms of output. I know there are a few Farmers here as well..Will post a few pictures of the farm later on.

Owner of the farm bought 50 Swedish cows for $4500 each and a/c to their claims these cows are giving an avg of 32+ Liters and 40+ liters during Peak days. Each consumes TMR of worth 300pkr per day. Rest u can do the maths urself

Another option is there in terms of cross breed (Foreign mother local bull) they will cost u something like 220k-250k pkr and gives 18 litres on avg daily.

Dairy farming is definitely a lucrative business with very high returns but like other fields, we Pakistanis are very behind in it.
Per animal production in our country is just above 3000 litres (annualy) while Israel is producing 11000 liters annually per animal

why don't you look around for poultry farm? i have some friends who started it as a backyard hobby and now they have 1.5 caror turnover every year.

Controlled Shed for Poultry is still risky business. I know someone who knew a guy who lost his senses after his 4-5 stocks perished in a row.We were only talking about it yesterday. But I would say that like the term people use in crash investigations that 'There were a chain of events that led to this catastrophe' . But its still risky. There are whole load of probs in pak like load shedding, faulty machines etc and people are not trained to do that unless those mega companies who have such highly trained staff.

There are two type of poultry in pakistan one is broiler and one is layer, the broiler thing is very risky but its output is within 40 to 50 days whereas the layer thing is better but its output is after 6 months and it continues uptill an year or so.

^^There are also hatcheries. Last year the price of day old chicken touched Rs60-70. That is profitable as well with low risks.Today i went to one and been told it is about 20.
