Stay away from HID's!

I'd been itching to change something on my car for a while now. Rims were too expensive, tires I'd already gotten... with GT-R style nitrogen!

So I decided to go for headlights. I wanted to stay away from HID's because only ***** - [Mod Edit] use them. **************************************** - [Mod Edit]. They blind you at the worst of times.

I got Sylvannia Silverstar Ultras. $29.99. Expensive? Yeah I'd say so...

Cleaning the headlamps. I had been told by a friend to try out toothpaste as a rubbing compound to see if that would make a difference. Decided to give it a shot.

The result: (it's not that apparent, but it's clean..er)

Now the installation process was a b*tch because I didn't have a double-jointed screw driver. SO, I had to take the battery out so I could get to a small screw. I didn't expect the battery to weight 3 and a half tonnes! and my back is still hurting!

The one on the left is the 9005HB high beam (yellow halogen), and the right one is the new 4000K temperature bulb:

That's exactly what they are! I didn't want to get HID's. They're just high performance bulbs that give the same amount of light as HID's, but they pester oncoming traffic much less.

The halo lights are retarded, but i see no reason not to get HIDs.

Most HIDs are also 4000k as i recall or 4300 perhaps... Use them in the high beam and eff anyone who blinds you, that's what i do

There is hardly any difference if you ask me, what about the road illumination? if no difference there either i think the 29.99 would be better spent downloading "something" from "some" site

It actually ended up making quite a lot of difference especially on rainy nights where the road is just a big mirror when it comes to using your headlights. Road illumination is definitely better, and it IS a wider visibility range. These bulbs are 4000K- true cock-style HID's are on the average of 6-7k, with the real shitty ones ranging anywhere from 8 to illegal 10's!

29.99 can be better spent in a lot of other ways than downloading things. You're talking about iTunes, right?

I remember there was a helmet visor polishing product available a few years ago. Can't remember what is it. That should clear all your scratches. About the discoloration, not so sure. If it's on the surface, it might clean it as well, however if the plastic is yellow, you'll have to change the lenses eek

About the HIDs in a normal reflector, well, the spark is of a copmpletely different shape and position in the bulb, so you'll be pretty much at risk of blinding every one coming your way even at low beam.

If your car came with halogens from factory, then putting HID in your car will blind everyone.

@Bilal: You should try Phillips X-Treme or Osram Night Breaker.They are far better than crappy silverstars which known for their ridiculous failure rate.

OR ... do what I am doing .... start saving up some big money to go for a Retrofit!!!

nice choice and the lite luks great. i have also ordered Osram Nightbreakers H4 for me and they are already in Pakistan since 27th of last month but somehow cant get ma hands on it. wud be with me on 5th Inshallah. i wud do a DIY and post the pics too. these bulbs are a wiser and more road-legal method for better lite

I didn't know anything about Phillips, although I did know Osram's were good too. I think they're a bit on the expensive side.

As far as a retrofit goes, I do have the money for one. The only problem is overcoming the Floridan heat and humidity while working. I'd have to take the bumper off to get the light out, and while that's fine, just working in the heat is going to kill me. To get to the left bulb, I had to take the battery out because I didn't have a flexible screwdriver. It took me about 20 minutes from beginning to end, but by the end I was sweaty, tired, and pissed off! So no retrofit before the winter.

Looking forward to it. It was relatively easy to change the bulbs for me, but simple tasks get really annoying in Hondas. I know changing the bulbs in my friend's Acura TL... we couldn't do it. We had to take it to the shop to get them done.

Doesnt matter if its phillips or osram or whatever...Whichever Energy saver i buy to power my TV lounge happens to die within 4-5 months in warranty! Over and over again..

Funny thing is they replace them without a single question!

Though HIDs give the driver better vision the halogen! Halogen suck....Now you can proudly tell your parents,'Ill be back'..!

I bought the exact same pair for my minivan and guess how much I paid for?????

$59.99 plus tax!!!! and these were only available at the Canadian Tire so didn't have much choice. getting them over by ordering online is an option but even then there is the tax and duty so not much savings. I am miffed by the thought that they make so much profits. I would imagine the company that sold it for $29.99 was making a decent profit as well. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
