Hi guys...
lately, a lot of members including me have noticed that this "quote" culture is on the rise on Pakwheels.
Every second member, instead of writing his/her post as "@XYZ bla bla bla" just pushes the "quote" button as a shortcut to get the format n all done. now , theres nothing wrong with this. but at times, there IS.
Some of the threads are very active, lots of posts n pictures are put on them every day and viewership is high. every member comes and "quotes" a post containing 5-10 pictures. then another one comes and does the same. this way, many , many pages are increased just by this quoting culture. For anyone whos looking for a particular post or reply to one of his/her post... things became very messy and annoying.
Now, i ve been doing the same thing too for a long time until recently when a member objected this practice. I ve stopped doing it now and I think we all shud do the same to reduce the mess on the threads. Here are a few things that i'd like the admins and mods to include in the "ethics" of posting online.
1) Unless absolutely necessary, please dont quote the pictures. If u use the "quote" button for a post that contains pictures and some text, edit the pictures (cut them) in the text box. For smaller, text-only posts, quoting is fine.
2) For long, text-only posts. try to quote only the portions that you want to answer or ask questions about or whatever. Please dont quote the whole post and put red color and larger font to the phrase or word u actually want to talk about.
3) Quote the pictures only when it is understood that without them in your post, the viewers would not understand what you're talking about (e.g some picture posted a few pages back into the thread) However, if the picture is posted just above ur post or 3-5 posts above that. dont quote, just address to the poster as @XYZ and write your comment.
4) Some people use the quote button even if their reply is the FIRST reply of that thread. This is literally like abusing a feature. Please refrain from doing this.
So, that is basically all that i have in my mind. there are just my suggestions and these shud be in the "ethics" section and not the "rules" one. i ve been doing all of this myself but now i ve learned and i wont do it again. but if any of u find me doing that again, do interrupt to stop me.i'd appreciate that.
Thats all... Thanks for viewing and do share ur views...
