Strange coarse noise while accelerating in 2nd gear

I have a Suzuki alto 800cc 1990 model running on cng. For the last few days I have noticed that there is a coarse noise when I accelerate in 2nd gear. The noise sounds like "grub, grub, grub" just like the sound of driving on a flat tyre. But this sound increases as I accelerate in 2nd gear and then disapears after 4-5 seconds and is not present in any other hears as I drive. When I slow down or brKe and again accelerate in 2nd gear the noise again appears and this now happens almost everytime I accelerate in 2nd gear. I babe Checked tyres, brakes and everything is fine. I have went to manymechanics but they all said conflicting things. One said it's the inner cv joint another said it could be gear box but I have no problems in gear shifting as all gears are smooth. Gear oil is also new and level is ok.

Can anybody help me in diagnosing this problem and the reasons for it

when u and ur mechanics are not even sure about the location of the source sound how can we suggest?
it can even be exhaust pipe touching the body or anything else!

My guess is for CV joint .. inner or out even at times the splines of joint get some play .. go to a cv joint and gear box specialist your problem will be diagnosed

OK I will do as you guys said but it is very difficult to find a good CV Joint and Gearbox specialist for Alto here in Peshawar

Which mechanic did u see? Tell me so that i suggest u some better mechanic who will diagnose and solve the problem and then will let u go

I saw Mistri Zubair near Gulabad Bridge, Jamrud Road, Mistri Khan Mohammad in street adjacent to Hotel Grand on Jamrud Road, and they said conflicting things. One suggested me to get rid of both inner CV joints along with a Kabuli gear Box from Shoba Bazaar. Now this I considered an extreme radical surgery without first knowing the exact nature of problem.
What do you suggest?

start by checking your gear oil level and if possible change it to proper GL4 SAE90 spec oil do not use GL5 rated gear oil in any jap small to mid size econocar - it will literally corrode and chew up all the syncronizer rings in your tranny.

next is to check that your CV and inner tripod joints are filled with proper grease, CV joints use a very sticky tar like black grease (10% moly content EP lithium soap NLGI2)

tripod joints use regular green grease (no moly EP lithium complex NLGI2 tacky type)

each joint in your car needs precisely 80 grams of it, While apart check that they are not severely worn out. and your tranny is not worn out too

Replace or regrease your front hub bearings and use new grease seals when finished. Your problems will never come back to haunt you

change gear oil and go for some thin gear oil other than STP

^^ be sure to read the spec rating of it - it should say API GL3 or GL4 if it says GL5 kiss your trans goodbye

the viscosity should be max SAE 90 minimum SAE75

Brother this prblem is laid inside the gear box,there are several bearings installed in gear box in which one of them has been broken,so get it fixed sooner otherwise ur gear box may be ruined.

Thanks for all those suggestions. Just to further clarify a few months back one mechanic changed the left side inner cv joint with another used one because there was a leak where the left inner cv joint connects with gear box and despite changing 2-3 seals the gear oil still leaked a bit from the joint. So he replaced it with with another one. I was a bit skeptical but he told me not to worry about it as he assured me that this used inner cv joint was in good shape.
Anyhow when he replaced the leak never occured since then and car was running fine till I started having this problem. At that time some of the gearoil was replaced by Zic Gear oil. Moreover a few years ago I had the problem of 3rd gear slipping so the gear box was opened and gears were adjusted by gearbox mechanic.
So this was the brief past history of repairs relating to inner cv joint and gearbox. At the moment the cv joint boots are ok. However when I drive the car I have a general feeling that apart from this " grub grub grub" in 2nd gear, there is a coarse addition to engine noise which I think is from gearbox because it only emits when I press accelerator pedal. When not moving the engine noise is low and smooth as silk.
So from what all you friends suggested and I m extremely thankful to you all brothers I have a growing suspicion towards the gearbox but strangely my gears and gearshifting is smooth as silk.
One mechanic told me that once a gearbox is opened it can never be done completely and some noises can't be undone so he advised me to get a kabuki unopened gearbox costing 9000 to 10000 ruppees. Is is true . Should I get a new Kabuli gearbox or repair my existing one. Kindly tell me ur expert advices

your mechanic is an idiot if he cannot eye pitted gears, jammed syncros and endshaft freeplay - what kind of reason is this that once opened it never works properly - ive done numerous manual and auto boxes - its made by man not GOD

Xulfiqar is right,any skilled mechanic can do this job easily without any problem.I have got repaired many gear boxes and they are still working without any problem.
