Strange issue of heatup/temp needle/sensor

yaar when u removed plastic bottle cap, thr is nothing to see
the cap is connected with pipe n radiator. if system is building gass/pressure, the pipe will blow it/throw it in side bottle

In this model the expansion tank pipe is on the bottom of the bottle. The top cap in this car is just a plain plastic cap with a pin hole in it.

btw - chodri, I dont know what sort of mechanics you are visiting but it only takes a little effort to find a junked radiator cap and weld a pressure valve fitting on it - In really tight times (out for service) I had to make do with a hole in the radiator cap and a tire valve sticking in it. I would apply pressure to the system when cold then go about looking for the leak if the pressure was dropping. Usually the leak was found within minutes if outside or about half hour if I could hear air in the cylinders or the crankcase (confirming a blown headgasket)

In your car - I would suggest you inspect the top most narrow pipe and also the bleed valve where the thermostat is placed and check for leaks.

Naqvi Sb. I am not familiar with @chaudhary9's car radiator set up. I have a 2007 Civic and a 2003 Spectra. On both cars opening the radiator cap leads directly into the radiator! Here is a shot of my 2007 Civic. Radiator cap and expansion bottle (extreme right) are visible and both can be opened independently.

In my opinion looking posting the video of the expansion bottle is rather pointless when all the drama is happening in the radiator. In any case the purpose on posting my video was to give @chaudhary9 an idea of what are the symptoms of a leaking head gasket.

i can look for the cap if you think that it can solve the issue as i am really getting tired, i mean gasket was the last thing n i even went for it to get rid of the issue for once n for all n even got the radiator cleaned properly at same time, n now even T valve is replaced

unless mechanics see the car over heating they say its all good n even when they'll see it over heating then i wonder what kind of magic wand is going to tell about the issue

i dont know about leaks...i fill it up till its neck where i can see it.. but water doesnt gets reduced from plastic bottle like that
either it doesnt at all or same amount every time almost even if checked after 3 or 4 or 5 days
but i have seen it throwing water out as i guess till neck means over filled, so after a drive when its parked some where i see water falling down under the car

this is the engine bay
i have seen the kind of bubbles in rad cap when gasket is blown, it happened with the car once when mechanic said its mixing oil n then said bachat ho gai hai, but because of that i got the gasket changed ultimately

i got the zic coolant filled n same day fan stopped working or dont know but whole coolant was gone, needle was almost touching H, i saw water evaporating at night time, went to nearby mechanic who checked n there was hardly any coolant left, filled lots of water then, from then onward car was working fine but on high rpm's it was heating up n then i got the gasket changed n head faced...this is the little history of it..from then on i keep a very strict eye on temperature needle

i never open rad cap, i have experience of opening twice myself, first when i didnt knew about pressure n even second time when i knew about pressure but didnt had much of an idea how to open it
i opened it from some distance n made a run for it, water shot up along with cap, that was the last time i ever tried opening it myself

i posted video only because i remember sir @Xulfiqar said in an earlier post that if its literally throwing water out then its a case of warp head so i posted a video here to get guidance if thats the issue or something else

btw 3 times when needle was crossing half n i reached the mechanic, n they opened rad cap there was no pressure at all

so far driving with ac n shifting at 3k is showing no issues, so i guess will have to live with that n save some fuel until this issue is resolved

btw i fill water till neck of plastic bottle when it shows as over heating why does water reaches till the cap? instead of just pulling it inside engine
it does shows it reduced the next day even if it showed it near cap on heat up

Water from reservoir goes back in as the engine cools down and water in the system contracts creating vacum causing the third valve in the cap to open thats y a proper cap is imp. A low bar cap would let the coolant leave the system into the bottole at lower temp causing shortage to coolant in the sustem tesulting in heatup.

Get a cap its routine maintainance

n if i should try with direct fan but i didn't so far as car wont be able to maintain its optimal temperature that way

they have 1.1 bar cap though saying its genuine
price is 400rs

Explain him the following.

1. Radiator cap is not like your everyday bottle cap.
2. It is a valve
3. Serves the following purpose
   a. Seals the cooling system. (outer gasket)
   b. Maintains system pressure as per the specification on cap. A 1.1 Bar cap would open the valve to expansion tank at exact 1.1 bar releasing excess coolant (pressure) into reservior tank. (coolant expands when heated)
   c. After the excess coolant has gone into the expansion tank, the system cools down and the remaining coolant contracts, here the third valve comes into play which opens due to vacum and sucks in the coolant from expansion tank back into the system.
   d. Increases boiling point of Coolant. Suppose you are using water as coolant, the boiling point of water at atmospheric pressure(1 bar) is 100 Degrees C? what would be the boiling point of water at 1.1 bar around 102 Degree C.

A system designed to handle 102 Degree C requires a certain amount of coolant in the system to work effectively. Your 0.9 Bar cap is allowing the coolant to flow into expansion tank earlier than it should thus depriving the system of required amount of coolant compromising its ability to cool. A good system has the cap working all the time which overtime reduces the tension in the spring requiring a replacement periodically. Cap is the single most important valve and alot of heating up cases start only because of a faulty cap. Sadly people replace whole engines but never bother replaccing a 1600 rupees cap.

I think its more thn enough info. Get a good cap brother....

Chaudhry sb i am also going through same kind of problem but my car is not heating only water is decreasing from reservoir bottle i asked mechanic to check water pump hoses and radiator mechanic says all ok and HG is bad i said no water oil mixing no sludge on oil filler cap car is not smoking only water reducing but he says HG is bad i asked him to replace water pump he says agar leak ho to pani ho mujhe nazar nahe a rha i said him check it he insists on HG. And seriously from the replies i got on pw where rather taunt then advice when i saw some senior members helping others on thread so i asked them but worthless.

I dont fill till neck i fill in between half way. It reduces like bottle gets empty in 3 days

I also have corolla 1.6 it has damn 250k km on odo and hasn't reduced water ever and oil also.

The plastic tank is an expansion tank and has two marks called min and max - on cold engine the liquid level should be between min and max or at max - dont fill more than max.

When hot the level should be above max.

so it should b between the both when its cold like at morning time but when its warmed up then it rises up?

anyways the levels of minimum and max arent really visible, they are some where below the neck thats why for assurance purpose i fill it till neck, the mechanic said use a wire long enough from ur hand till mid arm, dip that inside to check water level, so thats the issue of checking level in this bottle

when car heat up never off engine dear engine will seize and never starts just park to side road dnt stop engine start heater blower and radiator fan to cool down engine and put extra water bottles in car in case open bonnet and dnt open radiator cup ever just put water on radiator this will help car to cool down faster dnt put water on engine just put water on radiator

buy the cap not because it would cure the overheating
just because u r not using the correct one

plus when needle start to cross half,next time rush outside and check fan.........direct fan and thermostat out is taxi wala temp solution

Shah Jee, use dark coloured coolant.it always helped me in tracing leaks!
