The fuel pump is connected through the ecu. I've tried priming it by cranking then stopping to let the pump work for a few seconds. That doesnt help either. Pressure at the time when this happens is totally fine but since it doesnt have an fpr installed, the chances of it being a vapor lock seem to be very viable since the excess pressure in the fuel line with the vapors being there as well doesnt have anywhere to go when the car is turned off. I'll try to plumb an fpr in the fuel system somewhere and see if it helps and will report back here.

Yes, it isnt releasing the pressure in the tank like it normally does in the corolla. The only return-ish thing is the hole on the top of the pump, which only helps release a little pressure when the pump is running. I havent got the whole assembly, just the fuel pump inside the tank. I do however have the fpr thats installed in that assembly. I'll somehow try to install it inside the tank, where it can release the excess pressure.

That makes complete sense. My fuel system does not have an fpr installed at the moment. I installed the miniature fpr in the fuel tank once, using a pipe but it started leaking from there so I took it off. Since then, I've changed the design of the fuel pump assembly. It had slipped my mind to incorporate an fpr into it.

Another thing that I think points towards the vapor lock is, when I took off the pipe from the fuel rail, the fuel came out with a lot of pressure from the fuel rail side, and normal pressure from the fuel pump side. Is that normal or does it reflect the vapor lock issue? Also, do you believe, installing an fpr would solve this issue? Or something else needs to be done about it?
@Xulfiqar I'll get hold of the scope once I get this out of the way. The vapor lock issue seems like a probable cause and checking this first should be the way to go. Also, to ensure that vapor lock IS the issue, when its not starting up, if I take off the pipe from the fuel rail, let the pressure out, and connect it back and start it, it should start right?

Just install thw fpr inside tank grab a fuel filter assy of toyota corolla xli with complete assy, fuel pump is pre installed in it and it will cost you 2500/- for that install it in the tank and your problem would be resolved. I had solved many issues like these I. Swapped newer gen engines with only one fuel line had resolved the problem with the proper procedure I had mentioned above. Dont waste your time in foolish diagnostic procedure. If that thing doenst work than take all expenses from me. Got it.

As much as I appreciate your suggestion, I dont appreciate you calling my diagnostic procedure 'foolish'. There's always more than one way of doing things and while I already have the whole fuel pump assembly at hand, installing it in the tank by emptying it, cutting it, welding it and then putting it back in is something that I want to avoid so I'm looking for other alternatives to install the fpr.

you need the FPR - there is no fuel system in the world without an FPR as it provides a few workings.

1 - pressure regulation
2 - air bleed path
3 - pressure damping.

dont try to rig any FPR in the engine bay, rig up the small FPR you see in the fuel jug assemblies of new cars in your intank fuel pump setup - its not too hard - make sure the pressure after the FPR install is correct for your application.

Bro now here you are acting like a kid. Dont install the 2007 xli fuel pump assy with filter. Ok I know you would end up on that filter of old xli. Find the 2010 new model xli pump along with filter and pipe assy no need to cut the current tank and weld it its not safe and also not accurate. If you want I will explain you with pictures what do you say

The space that I currently have in the tank opening has space only enough to let the pump and the strainer pass through it. It cant possibly allow any assembly to be inserted into it without cutting it.

Ask the mechanic to get a used xli 2010 filter and measure the free space. Btw you can attach the fpr separatly as some honda civics setup do use them but you had to make a custom housing outside of the tank and install the T Nd fpr inside it to prevent the accidental leakage or any damage.

yes its possible, as rajatta mentions too. the older honda civics/accords were like that. make sure to use hose nipples and strong band clamps.
