you need the FPR - there is no fuel system in the world without an FPR as it provides a few workings.
1 - pressure regulation
2 - air bleed path
3 - pressure damping.
dont try to rig any FPR in the engine bay, rig up the small FPR you see in the fuel jug assemblies of new cars in your intank fuel pump setup - its not too hard - make sure the pressure after the FPR install is correct for your application.
