Stuck between 8th Gen Civic (TOTL) vs 9th Gen Civic (TOTL UG) vs Altis 1.6

Hey guys...

I know the thread sounds a bit confusing. But I am stuck between these three options.

1- Civic 8th Gen AKA 'Reborn' Top of the line
2- Civic 9th Gen Top of the line UG package
3- Corolla Altis 1.6

I have a budget of 1.9 million. I am sure you will ask that why these 3 different variants amongst which the 9th gen would be most expensive and why I have not mentioned the Altis 1.8 etc etc. Here is my opinion for the choices.

1- 8th Gen is old but I can get a 2011 model for almost 1.5mill. This car was well received by the market and may still have a potential for next 3-4 years (please correct me if i m wrong). The only downside is the fuel consumption which I have heard is no better than 8-9 kmpl in city traffic where I will be using it in city only.

2- 9th Gen was not received very well by the market (again correct me if i am wrong) but keeping in view that it is newer so lesser problems. Plus I have heard that fuel eco is better in this model. and the interior is just lovely.

3- Altis 1.6 lies between these aforesaid 2 models. It will lack the bells and whistles of the civics and quiet honestly it will be same as 1.3 Xli or Gli but with a few more options such as auto trans and a few small additions here and there. The reason I kept it in the options is that I think being a Corolla, it will have better resale value that the aforesaid 2.But it is my least favorable option.

Why I did not mention the 1.8 Altis? Simple.. I dont like it. I think 1.8L segment belongs to Civic until Toyota launches a new car in that segment which is not Corolla.

Now my question is, I have 1.9 mill. Which car should I go with keeping in view that I will keep it for another 3-4 years and do not want any surprises when I would sell it (like 1.9mill car selling for 1.2mill etc etc). I am salaried individual hence will not get time for workshop excursions. need peace of mind.

Why not brand new City Aspire Pros or a Corolla GLI Auto? Both have a wait of 6 months plus auto in 1.3 is pretty sluggish and also hard to sell.

I may be wrong about a thing or two. Please correct me if I am wrong with anything. Plus I am open to options.

I say NO to Japanese crap so please no advise for them. (Today I drove a brand new unregistered 2014 vitz with 6000 km on the ODO and the engine sounded like old Khyber. Sorry Vitz fanboys.. my Swift is much quieter and fun to drive than that piece of crap)

Someone who just shifted from an 8th gen to a Corolla Altis 1.6, I can tell you what made me go for Toyota.
First off, I am a honda guy, this is my first Toyota.

The only reason I chose the Corolla this time around was:

1. Newer
2. Better resale

3. I am getting great fuel economy - i drive with a soft foot - getting more than 15 KM/L inside Islamabad

4. But I don't like the cars stance.... its like a mini suv. And no bells & whistles, not even airbags

Sold my 8th Gen Civic:
1. The fuel economy was horrendous - I was getting between 10.5 - 11 KM/l on the prosmatic despite a soft foot. It had all the bells and whistles.
2. prices of the 8th gen were going down so I decide to get out as soon as I can
3. Engine mount typically fails after every 40,000-60,000 KM and its just a pain.
4. The ride is excellent and it corners like a dream

Why I did'nt go for the 9th gen:
1. I hate its rear
2. I could'nt get a clean 2014 model top of the line civic in this price - I was only looking for the top of the line variant
3. I think I would lose money on the car when I sell it, since everyone is crazy about the 10th gen and 9th gen did'nt receive good reviews

Do note: The ride of the civic will always be better than the Corolla, atleast within the city. Corolla is more rugged... like I said, a mini SUV.

I bought my first 8th gen (reborn) in 2010 and was thinking to upgrade my car to 9th gen in 2014 but eventually bought another 2012 model 8th gen.

My comparison between 8th and 9th gen is
9th Gen is far better car in terms of
1. Fuel consumption
2. Features like Climate Control
3. Cruise Control
4. i-Mid display
5. Interior
6. Quiet
7. Comfortable ride
8. Newer

exterior is debatable so I won't comment.

but
there were few things that were bad in 9th gen but I have solved them too.

Braking, I changed the brake system to Japanese and its even better than a Pakistan Stock 8th gen, costed me about 12k
Body Roll, I changed rear sway bar and the body roll is not less than a stock reborn, costed me about 11k
Ride Height, I changed to Japanese springs and the ride height has decreased by about 0.5inch to 0.75inch and I am really happy

so I would suggest to go for a 9th gen and do these MODs if you can.
