Suggestions for Khunjerab pass tour on a budget

Us 3 friends are debating to visit khunjerab visiting the areas that come on the way after eid holidays. Our plan is to camp and cook most food ourselves. Only real expense will be fuel which we are estimating about 7-8k.

Kindly suggest what should be our budget. We are from abbottabad. Naran stay will be free for us after that we don't know anything about gilgit, hunza etc, where to camp safely and what areas to visit. I have been till raikot bridge last year for nanga parbat base camp trek.

The trip will be at least six days. First night will be in naran after that should we go to gilgit or hunza for stay. It will be greatly appreciated if some expert can guide us completely. Is 5k per head enough meaning 15k?

what will be the mode of transport, abotabad to naraan is a small few hours ride.. first day you guys need to reach Hunza from abotabad, next day you guys will be in khunjerab.

For camping go to eagles nest there are many cheap yet beautful camping sites for traveller, you can either deploy ur own camp or get one on rent from them..

It will either my probox or friend's altis. We have plenty of days also offered a free room in demanchi naran hence wanted to stay but that can be done on the return leg.

Your take off is from Abottbad so you can just go to Hunza very very easily given you exit trafic of mansehra in early morning and camp at Duikar/Eagles Nest as mornings at eagles nest are more refreshing then a I have ever epsrienced.

Nex day you can take ur probox to Khunjrab Border. and come back to same camp in Hunza and sleep.

3rd day you can come back to abotbad home just as you went.

The above plan is only for Visiting Khunjerab pass, if you havne tdone sight seeing ahead of Riakot then the itenray would be totally different.

That is pretty good. Can you highlight what places can we see near hunza, gilgit and on the way to khunjerab. Trip can be as long as 5, 6 days. Also is our budget enough ?

I always travel in low budget, I don't live in luxury or eat fancy while traveling.
And Hunza region is not very expensive.
For a 5 days trip, it costed me around 14K from Mansehra to Khunjerab to Mansehra.. that was a week before Ramadan. (with plenty of free meals of course)
I took a Premio there. and it gave me 10.2kmpl and it took roughly 10K in fuel.
You can only save money if you actually know that region well. I am traveling to hunza since plenty of years now. I roam like a local , as i have got plenty of good old friends from there.

Please take sleeping bags and camps with you and dont spend too much money on food and it will be alright.

Same thinking here. We have everything we need for camping. Only real expense would be fuel and after that food but my friend is saying he will make most meals and if we have to eat at a hotel, we will obviously go for the cheaper options. Friend is even saying he can make the trip in 11k but i highly doubt it, at least 15k should be there or even more in case. Do you haveany info that might come in handy or tips for me ?

I think we can't go further than 16 or 17. Right now we have 15k.

yes you have to keep the money for the emergency needs. But other then that .You ll be fine if you camp, and Make your own food.
From Mansehra to Besham to Dasu to Chillas to Jaglot to Hunza to Sost to Khunjerab pass and coming back , i drove extra 100 km in Thor near Chillas, and back to Masnehra in the fuel of around 10K where premio was giving us 10.2Kmps.

if you are going from Babusar top, its 100 KM shorter, we took the long route as Babusar pass was closed, Plus i drove extra 100 kilometers in Thor so , the fuel should be less then 10K for sure.

Its enough money. Fuel should not exceed 7k since I visited recently Lahore- Mansehra - Behsham - Chillas - Astore - Deosai - Astore - Hunza - Khunjrab Pass - Chillas - Babusir Top - Naran - Manshera - Islamabad - Lahore
Fuel 15k on honda city. I also saved money as i carried Home Cooked tin packed food from Lhr secondly had 2kg cylinder stove for instant cooking and tea and you must be doing the same thing. Since you will be staying in the camp so expense should further cut down.
15k in my opinion is enough.

Yes you are right. I came back yesterday from the trip and it costed nearly 13k. Food cooked by ourselves, camped instead of rooms. Btw did you took your city to astore and deosai ?

I must say i saw pathetic behaviour by pakistanis at khunjerab border. When we came some highly well dressed personnel arrived, they were wearing some uniform, looked like high rank officers to me. There was a lady with them too. They were waving, taking pictures and even talking to us in urdu. Then some girls arrived too. The comments the pakistanis were making i cant even tell you. One girl came near for taking pictures and someone started fondling her. She went away without saying anything. Then someone said to the pakistani soldier to let them through and he said ap logo ko age ane diya to mje pata ha kya hona ha lehaza peche he raho, pakistani ho kuch sharam karo, then someone said i am from gilgit not pakistan. My friend got angry and said wapis dafa ho phr apne gilgit, he stared but then backed away. In short we as a nation are pathetic people, the respect and honour the Chinese were giving us we are not worthy. I must say they are very nice people, opposite of what we are.
