Haseeb Bhai, your bill seems OK. Although it's too much. Last year you would have paid around Rs 4000 for this consumption but this year OGRA has changed the calculation method and managed to charge us double even when the slab rates are lower than last year. Pakistanis really are smart when it comes to these things. You can either pay this bill and forget about it or you can go to the High court and ask for explanation from SNGPL. I will be willing to go with you if you are interested.

As from Jan 1st, 2013, new rates are being applied so in this bill, they have charged you Rs 1491 for the days of December and Rs 4072 for January, 2013 consumption. So they have applied Slab 3 i-e Rs 500/MMBTU on December,2012 (app last 10 days) and also Slab 3 i-e Rs 530.69 on your January,2013 consumption. However as your consumption is less than 3 HM3 in this bill, slab 2 should have been used. As you can see that for Dec 2012 bill your consumption was 2.57HM3 and bill was Rs 2289. Therefor for 2,92HM3, your bill should be near this amount. Therefor in my view your bill is wrong and you should bring it to your revenue office and they will hopefully amend this. Let me know of the progress

but you are lucky that your fraction is just under .5 otherwise you fall in next category.

Those who have received Sui Gas bill for this month, please see if you have the correct bill. I think there is a big blunder in the bill and every one is charged twice than the actual amount.

Gas rates w.e.f. 01-07-2012 were:
Upto 1 Hm3 per month: Rs 100/MMBTU
Over 1 to 3 Hm3 per month: Rs 200/MMBTU
Over 3 Hm3 per month: Rs 500/MMBTU

Now my gas consumption is 1.01 HM3 i-e 3.259 MMBTU. According to this my Gas charges should have been:
3.244 * 100 = Rs 324.4
0.015 * 200 = Rs 3
Total Gas Charges 324.4 + 3 = Rs 327.4

However I have been sent a bill with Gas charges of Rs 651.8 i-e (3.259 * 200).
In my opinion this is a malpractice because it has always been calculated as I mentioned above. However putting all of my gas usage to the second slab is not right. This is against the law of equality since I can not enjoy the first slab rates when others can. In other words everyone consuming more than 1 HM3 are going to pay by the second slab and they will miss the first slab altogether. Spread the word please.
