Nope. I got my issue fixed today. My alternator bearings were making noise. Replaced both of them with brand new ones. Noise has gone.

Go to some mechanic or call him home, take off your engine belt. See if you still get the sound or not. Drive for 200-300meters only otherwise your car will heat up as water pump won't be working.

If you don't get any sound with above experiment, then go to some good mechanic and ask him to diagnose that which pulley is making sound or not.

Worked for me, and my car is sound free now Alhamdullilah.

Someone told you that tensioner requires cylinder head removal?

And someone also told you that removing and installing a cyl head causes an engine sound note change?

No one told me that, based on my "internet research" I assumed it should require the engine head to be removed in order to access the tensioner. Forgive me ignorance.

The problem is that I am unable to properly diagnose the issue. I will try what @haseeb.basharat suggested.

Also I had changed the transmission oil recently and i suspect it is overfilled as the dip stick always shows its overfilled whether cold or hot.

@Xulfiqar I have taken these pictures from the internet (2NZ-FE), can you point out where the tensioner is located?

Are you checking transmission dipstick with engine off?

Checked it with engine off, engine on with gear in P, cold and hot both. All situations showed excess oil on dip stick.

Its only checked with engine running and car parked on level surface.

The hot mark is when the atf is above 65c (driven 20 kms) and the cold mark is atf at 25-30c (cold startup)

Check atleast 3 times.
