I'm in the process of overhauling suspension of Nissan sunny 2005. I will be changing all four struts/shock absorber can anyone recommend good Chinese/taiwanese brand and shop in karachi for same as kyb/tokico are out of my range.

But best way is to choose KYB or Tokibo shocks. Once change, you can forget it for next 5 years.

However if you are trying to find the most economical solution (which may comprise on the vehicle quality), then take its original shock absorbers and visit the old part market. Visit the shops who deals with auto shocks and tell them to give you economical replacement.

Or within the old part market, you can see lots of people who are rebuilding/repairing the shocks & springs. You can visit them too. They can customize it too. But plz note such jugaars never works for long term basis.

My old lancer had ground clearance issues while crossing bumps.
I found CL9 shocks are exactly same shape and fits well in lancer without any single modification. After fixing cl9 shocks in lancer, never had any ground clearance issue and most importantly the comfort was not compromised either.

Which means the alternative solutions does exists.

Railway bogey shock absorbers also can fit in a mehran. Doesnt mean you can use them.

3 years back I changed front struts with tokico with RBI mounting. Bought from plaza but I was bit skeptical as they had slight marks though it was claimed they are new n paint damage during transport. RBI (Thailand) stuff still going strong. But tokico gave up.

I prefer Taiwanese Thai Chinese parts over kabuli

Shock repair science is beyond my understanding. I will be simply glad if someone can guide me about shops that keep budget brands like TOP etc

Regarding modification till now I am maintaining my car thru car parts directory, I use my car chassis/vin to source parts. Unfortunately shocks are costly to source from abroad.

Actually knowing the full story is important.

First time when I changed the shocks of lancer, then I replaced them with same model shocks. Since it was 1991 model, hence its newer shocks were not available. You can call to Usman autos and speak with Hanif or Amjad. They will confirm.

So I bought them Kabuli from Shop no. 136. But they didn’t worked well and gone within days.

2nd time I found kabuli shocks from Lancer house shop no. 89 but this time they were in awesome condition. They did worked well but for 1 month only. They failed too.

3rd time when I went to old part market, then there is a famous guy named as Ustaad Manna. I told him shocks failed two times. And then he gave me couple of options for the shocks who were almost similar to original shocks. CL9 shocks were on the table too which I choose. And yes they went very well till the time I sold the car.

It was good decision to choose the CL9 shocks and fit in Lancer 91 model because I solved its ground clearance issue also.

Read full message Boss. I did suggest to use kyb/tokico shocks as first option. But incase if wants to look for other economical options then I mention to find the replacements from old part market.

Installing scrap parts for suspension and expecting anything is a waste of time, you were delusional if you think used suspension damping parts can be installed without checking their functioning first.

Ive seen “kancha” items that the owners even swore upon, once I removed their springs and tested the piston compression and rebound and showed how trash they were, only a select few actually believed it, the rest were still stuck with “Kabul Afghanistan se aaya hai aur 1 number japani hai”

At which point I automatically deduced they were time wasters or brain dead or both. That was a while back, and for a longest time till today I refuse to install scrapped parts, ill let my tools rust away but wont subject them to the insult of doing a bad job.

Well the cost factor dominates the situation

Why majority wants to give a try to the kabuli shocks? Because their price is less than half of newer shocks.

This year I had my J95 Prado’s all 4-shock absorbers replaced with Tokibo’s new one.

One friend send me picture of the kabuli shocks he found from Sultan Ka Khoo market in Rawalpindi. He said one pair of shocks is available in 10K only and condition is like brand new. Shopkeeper saying these just arrived in fresh inventory.

But I choose the new one and have to separately purchase the Bump Stop Set too which cost me more than double. But its working perfect

Anyone buying scrap parts that have finite function life is playing a joke on themselves, I dont care if the customer is dirt poor or filthy rich, if they cannot afford repair costs of their car to keep it roadworthy and actually safe to drive them they are better off not owning a/the car at all.

Majority buy kabuli parts because they are pushed by mechanic who have more than 50 pct cut, even your old struts are kept by mechanic painted n sold again as kabuli. Same thing is done with radiators. Once I was being forced to buy a kabuli japani radiator on close inspection I found it to be used chinese radiator later I bought new thaicool radiator which was cheaper than kabuli n is working perfectly.Surprisingly in Pakistan we even find kabuli cooling coils n radiator which considering the fact r made of aluminum n have a limited life. I have spent a good amount of time at sharjah scrapyards n I never came across used cooling coils radiators because they are considered disposable and so does rubber mounts, bushes n pipes. Don't be surprised next time when your local mechanic pushes you to buy jenyan oil air filter japani use like new because his greed prevails everything.

That’s true that some mechanics does have their cuts from the old part sellers. But its hardly like 500-1000 only depending upon the situation/price/part.

Despite all these truths that Kabuli parts are most repaired local parts, etc. but still many people opt them. And here is the interesting point, after changing the kabuli part, they actually feel the +ve difference in vehicle’s performance and keep telling/suggestion others to go for Kabuli parts too.

There is no replacement for placebo.

I laugh at people installing scrapyard wear parts like engine mounts or brake hoses etc, some guys even dont blink an eye to buy scrap sourced electric waterpumps and sealed fan clutches that cannot be refilled.

Scrap radiators (the cheap aluminium trash ones), ac expansion valves, condensers, spark plugs etc, literal service parts including air filters too.

The list is endless..

And its good comedy and business for actual good workshops when they get to undo the screwups of such owners.. and at higher than normal prices. (Real workshops charge more than usual to fix a fault caused by such idiotic shenanigans)

And apparently you have no idea of how scrap dealers work, the kickback has variable percentage as its according to total business referral of 4 weeks

Update from my side.
I came to conclusion repairing shock is out of question as we don't have repair cartridges available here n secondly local repair is useless as valve/seals might be changed by local guys but they cannot come up with exact ratio of oil n gas therefore local repair won't last much.

Went to plaza did survey, Chinese shocks n kabali trash from magzine line are almost same price I wonder why people buy kabali trash. Anyways luckily I came across new Kyb made in Japan rear shocks which I bought without any second thought of cost aspect. Today I got them installed, old shocks that came out are Nissan Unisia made in Japan. According to mechanic everything is orginal n first time rear shocks are being replaced. So one can imagine original shocks lasted 19 years, therefore car deserved a treat of new kyb made in Japan shocks.

I will be buying front suspension parts this week, according to mechanic front tokicos seems okay but exact situation would be known after opening car. Kyb front would be expensive n I have no mood to buy Taiwan Thai or Czech made at this price. I came across GSP struts which seem interesting, anyone having idea how is GSP stuff?
