my work colleague is Ismaili muslim from a town 2 km from Hunza city. His parents live totally off grid year around. In winters they rely upon solar energy to run appliances. 6 solar panels sunlight charging of battery bank. They use induction utensils for cooking. In summers they have own 5 kw generator connected to a locally designed turbine using water stream behind their home.
their life style is quiet basic and comfortable. Getting up at sunrise doing all chores in day light at sunset life slows down. winter evening heating is old school wood fireplace. They have their own ducks and chicken. Goats for milk however they have serious complaints of daily dry ration prices going up by 200% in past 18 months.
we 3 families are planning to visit the place and stay in only basics, at end of winter season before summer sometime in 2024. we have plenty of the pictures of his family there but those are private, so can not be shared.
