errr i do understand what you mean bus ABS gives an edge over normal braking and stops the car slightly sooner. The car skidding will take you a long way also a skidding car does not let you control it but ABS does let you control the car and avoid an accident.

Also the Retractable mirrors and power windows are not useless at all. These should be make standard on all variants in years 2019 because they dont cost as much as they used to back in early 2000s when boys used to figgle with accord CL9's.

Specially in a place like Islamabad where there is close to no space anymore to park cars and very tight streets and roads to drive on this dinky;s extra features come real handy.

Wagon R is seriously ugly, way way uglier thn the new alto. To me new alto with its retro looks exactly how a car in 2019 coming from japan looks like.

bear in mind the wagon R is an obsolete japanese design but the new alto is current prevailing design in japan so expect seriously good addons from sultan ka khu in pindi or bilal gunj in lahore.

I have a vitz too and that has abs. So I know how abs works abs how a car equipped with abs works. It does reduce the braking distance by making sure that rolling friction is maintained instead of sliding friction in case of a skid.

Had I been driving vitz that day I could have slammed the brake hard and the car would not have skidded.

In case of Corolla it was reflex that helped be to take my foot of the brake and then apply again to control the car

It does decrease stopping distance, not drastically, but it does. ABS brakes of 2002 Platz are better than a 2010 Xli non-ABS in skidding conditions

Again I agree WagonR has a pathetic design. It's probably the .most ugly looking car on sale in Pakistani market ever.

I am no where comparing WagonR with Alto. Nor am I saying WagonR is any better.

I just said where alto was better then WagonR and Suzuki should have considered a VXR AGS giving more important to AGS rather then other goodies. Like they skipped some things in WagonR to save costs. (I know its basically based on how it is in Indonesia).

The PKDM WagonR has no link with a JDM WagonR they are par apart it is basically an Asian WagonR.

I guess you missed the retractable mirrors thoose dont fold 100%, so what ur referring to tight parking spaces they aren't as use full.

ABS has never been helpful to me, in fact where ABS comes into play in emergency braking the tires not being locked car goes further then required (lock and go motion).

The skid in a non ABS car is when one is driving on insane speeds. Other then that they work reasonably okay. (Let's skip 2002-2008 corolla).

ABS comes in to unnecessary use when on slippery wattery roads and bumby road conditions.

And you hardly have any control over the steering in stop and go traffic.

@danishmmh ABS in no manner decreases braking distance. It only means anti lock braking system. Nothing else. Yes it does gives you control over the steering but atleast in emergency I dont have so much senses working to steer the car. Probably old age is getting me.

By reducing the braking distance I meant compared to slamming hard on the brakes and skidding the car. If you can manage stop and go braking then us it will be least than abs brakes distance

Secondly the issue with Karachi at least is that you can easily manage 45 to 60 on Shahra e Faisal with very little space in between the cars. So I have had a couple of abs instances.

I have personally experienced it to kick in in vitz at about 35-40km/hr twice or thrice. People more knowledgeable on the system can better guide.

This is what I'm telling you in such cases it doesnt stop in required time I have had 2 instances where I banged my car into the car in front, because the car kept going (lock unlock braking).

If its was a non ABS car it would definitely stop in required time.

Abs doesnt means better braking. It simply means anti lock braking. And anti lock when required. It's also jams your wheels when parked on a signal.

So slippery, bumpy roads makes the sensor go coo coo.

There are certain conditions in which ABS reduces stopping distance, like dry roads etc. But in case of wet road/snow etc, i.e. slippery conditions, ABS increases braking distance. As mentioned by @danishmmh above, it is due to the difference between the different types of frictions encountered while rolling or skidding. Consider ABS as the tyres trying to dig in due to stop and go application of brakes. If the car skids, there is no such force application on the ground and hence the longer stopping distance.

But of course, this is only true in case of dry roads. When on wet roads/snow/gravel, this will increase the stopping distance, because the underlying surface is not solid and gives way when brakes are applied. In those conditions, ABS allows you to control the direction of the wheels.

Personally, I have also observed ABS engaging at speeds as low as 35-40 km/h. Maybe even lower. Don't know the exact thresholds.

I do usually keep safe distances. the issue is if you keep more distances then every other person wants to get in between so it is b2b traffic with no concern for this safety feature.

And has anyone done research on PKDM alto`s r06a engine? JDM one produces 54HP in natural aspirated form but pkdm one produces just 38 HP (naturally aspirated). Have they detuned the engine?
