I own a 1988 Suzuki FX. Its been in our family's possession since 1996. I bought it from my parents in late 2017. Since then, i have been working to bring my car to mint condition for daily use (it has already been in good condition and has been used carefully).
I got AC installed in my car a couple of months ago ( June 2018). Below are my details about alterations and installation procedure.
Pre-requisits
- Engine should be in Good, if not great, condition. Get it inspected from a mechanic.
- Car should be running on Petrol, i can't say anything about CNG. My car has always been on petrol and engine is flawless.
AC Stuff
- Pajero Mini compressor.
- Corolla 2D Condenser.
- Turbo Fan for significant AC Throw.(side and center air vents throw cool air)
Cost: 30,000
I got AC installed from a close technician, his shop is near Ganga Raam Hospital. As per a lot of people i have met, everyone said that this is the best performing AC in FX! so its worth the cost.
Heat Management
So, as expected, i started running into heat issues. I got Radiator fan replaced and added toyota XLI Radiator fan (cost: 2000, see pic). It has 10x better throw, but caveat is power consumption. My battery was getting low after a couple hours of drive. Fan was direct, always on. Now i replaced the generator with a japanese Denso generator from Bilal Gunj (Cost: 2000). It has higher power output and keeps the battery charged. I'm planning to get a bigger Qabli Radiator installed in next summer to make heat dissipation more efficient.
Conclusion
Overall, i'm more than satisfied with AC performance. Fuel economy is also okay (although i don't care about it, i think its giving me 8-10 km/l with a hard foot on paddle). Since its an old car, so minor issues are tolerable and regular maintenance is inevitable.
