Suzuki Gs150SE VS honda CB150F

As i know that this topic had already been discussed numerous times but i still cant find an appropriate answer to my queation.
I am from khi and planning a tour to skardu on bike. I currently own ybr125G but it being a lil underpower i have decided to change the bike before hitting the north.
Gs150 has proved itself in north but i personally don’t like its shape. That is the reason i am slightly inclined towards cb150f. If anyone can help me decide which bike to buy...? We will be two persons travelling on the bike.

Don't waste your money on old outdated shape GS. Buy CB150F i have seen pics & review of couple of CB users done those journeys to mountain areas on CB no complain of being sluggish or under power. How ever your priority is top speed than YBR & CB will have nearly same top speeds even GS. YBR specially old model people complain of being sluggish & under power on hilly areas. Wise choice in every aspect is CB, GS has edge in power but still does not seem good choice considering the price so use amount of around 175k better on some thing latest smooth, attractive & comfortable.

GS 150 has proved to be better tourer in northern areas.
If you didn't like Shape and want better bike then GS you should go for Derbi ETX or Zongsheng RX1

CB 150 has more torque than GS or YBR. You will need torque in Mountains so go for CB. for top speed it will be equivalent to GS. All other 150s are expensive i.e. Derbi etx 230,000, Zongshen RX1(200cc) Rs 330,000. So the best value for money is CB at 180,000/-. Even GS is for 175,000/- with out fuel gauge and gear indicator.

Personally I choose CB because of these factors I am happy with the purchase so that's why I am sharing my opinion

IMHO GS has more power than CB. GS keep on going uphill in those areas where YBR and CBs were struggling for oxygen.

Brother CB have simple carburetor and GS have butterfly which will always struggle for more air. CB has more torque then GS hence better climbing qualities. I am saying this because I have CB and I know its cons and climbing is not one of them. GS has the proven engine and there is no doubt about it however the very quality of its carburetor is the issue in climbing.

Why? Do you want to break the land speed record or something?!

If so, get The Hayabusa. CBF is a small displacement, fuel efficient commuter motorcycle and going fast isn't its intended purpose, I'm afraid.

Air is sucked inside an engine due to vacuum created inside the combustion chamber so the air intake will be similar; regardless of the type of carburetor.

For high elevation, you can either fix the screw on the carb and lean the mixture so carb can get more air and less fuel or you can re-jet it, which is going to cost you!

Change the sprockets!

Follow the tried and tested -1/+2 rule. Drop one teeth at the front, add two at the rear and that's it! Your bike will accelerate MUCH harder than before. Maybe comparable to a CD175 or even 200!

Why do you think all milkmen use YB100s? I've a YB100 myself (Which is ironic, because I don't sell milk!) and it can reach 60km/h in just few seconds because it's geared extremely low. So low that one can pull the bike in second gear from a rest! But it comes at a cost of low top speed and higher RPMs.

So... Do you want to change sprockets for 500 rupees or do you want to replace your WHOLE bike for 50 thousand rupees?

Brother reliable source is my friends who went multiple times to Khunjrab Pass on motorcycle from Karachi. There motorcycle struggled due to low density air because of altitude. When air filter were removed they were struggling less. Butterfly carbs are very efficient carbs as compared to simple ones (as one in CB). However they struggle a bit on altitude.

I am not arguing with your experience but dense air is not present Oxygen is crucial for combustion and thin air has less oxygen resulting in choking of the carb no matter how much volume of air is sucked by the carb. low oxygen will always create problem at altitude thus making it difficult for butterfly carb as they are to go smooth. I have also met with people who are praising CB for not choking and they didn't need to remove air filter on Babusar pass or khunjrab pass. My Point that old shi**y PZ carbs are performing better on Mountains with torque of CB engine on mountains(comparison with locally available motorcycle) and offcourse low gear ratio of CB

Mixture is yes another option to play around with but how many guys are able to do it with out getting in a limbo of "upsetting the carb thus performance is not satisfactory" state.

Jetting is also for somewhat experienced riders who understand the combustion of engine, mixture of fuel and air, quality of air and what type of performance they want from their bike.

We have 150cc engine where we claim are the most powerful engines in the country.

I think I might be able to clear my point.

@tamour I ll differ from your opinion. CV carbs are better than simple carbs. I agree to this point that CB has better low end torque than GS but GS never denies to climb any kind of steep climb. I have done Noori Top and Badgoi top on GS and beleive me it was the best performer among 125-150cc bikes.

Bro My CB goes to max 95 on my meter, on gps it shows 105 k/hr consider this i have 100/90 18 rear and 3.00 18 front tyre which also affect the speed.

@taha66 I know the CV are better carbs then simple ones but we are talking about riding in mountains and no carb is designed specifically for riding at altitudes every carb will create problem no matter how simple or advance it may be. I am just saying that Carb of CB with its engine combination is more efficient in climbing.

I also never said anywhere that GS can't climb, I said that it face difficulties (leaving the rider skill aside). GS has the best engine for touring.

I am here sharing my opinion and you have complete right to disagree.

We are here just to gain experience and share ours.

My apologies, brother! I was merely putting things into perspective!

There are a TON of factors which affect speed when it comes to lightweight, low powered motorcycles.

Aerodynamics, elevation, road inclination, engine condition, combustion efficiency, fuel grade, temperature, humidity, drive chain and sprocket condition, traction difference due to tire wear and pressure, the list goes on.

In fact, even weight and height of the rider affect things!

And yet here at Pakwheels; people LOVE to discuss, debate and argue about top speed! And this particular behavior is rather silly, childish and immature!

If someone has a need for speed; then he better make sure his ride has got 2 or more cylinders! Thump-thumps just don't cut it!

As a matter of fact, even Ducati ditched its signature 90-Degree V-Twin and went with 4-Cylinder V4 configuration with its recent flagship Panigale 1299 Superbike, so even two cylinders are too few!

You made a very valid point that we want 150 k/hr from mere 10 11 hp engines which is our foolishness

I have seen 3 GS guys who blownup clutch plates at Kumrat and another biker who traveled with me to AJK he did same to his GS-SE at Baboon Pass.

My GS150 went to Naltar, Khunjerab, Skardu, Deosai, Babusar, Noori Top, Saiful Malook, Taobat and so on....
Currently 50K+ mileage on odo and no Clutch plate change.
So i guess in most cases, rider is to be blamed for fried clutch plates.

All mentioned tracks are normal and can be done without any mechanical issues. I met Iqbal Ghangla most senior and expert rider on way to Noori struggling on steeps with GS.

Baboon, Banda, Booni, Batogah and Tirichmir tracks can not be compare to Babusar or Noori. Moreover bikers now a days only share fancy and fabricated stories but never the hurdles.

P.S: I have done these tracks on GS800F last year.

Noori top is not that easy as you are narrating it. I have done it twice. Once on Qingqi trail and sexond time on Deluxe with boxer 200. Badgoi top was more tougher than Noori but GS150s were rocking there. Whereas, YBRs were struggling to breath. YBRs were pushed, paddled blah blah but GS was providing the minimum power which was required to climb those steep uphills.
