Suzuki Margalla 1996 Mileage

Hi,

I wanted to share my mileage experience of Suzuki Margalla 1996 on petrol in Karachi.

My daily total commute is 50 km from Gulshan-e-Maymar to Baloch Pull. I drive mainly at the speed of 70 km/h on the highway and 30 to 50 km/h in the city (without A/C but stereo on throughout the journey).

If I fill the tank with regular petrol from PSO near Sohrab Goth, around 16.84 litre petrol (Rs.1600 @ Rs. 95) lasts for four days. This makes an average of around 11.8 km/l.

However, if I fill the tank from Total/Parco located inside Gulshan-e-Maymar, the same amount of petrol lasts only three days resulting in an average of 8.9 km/l.

The conclusion is one should beware of fraud petrol companies. This may be the reason for the low/poor mileage that some Margalla owners complain of.

Edit: I had filled petrol from PSO pump located near National Stadium Karsaz road and the car's petrol mileage was nearly the same as the pump located near sohrab goth. I had also tried from Hascol pump located near my home town of Gulshan e Maymar, and I had to refill after only 2.5 days.

So, I believe PSO pump sells high quality petrol. My average without AC ranges from 10.5 to 12 kmpl depending on road conditions. Note that my monthly petrol fuel for 50 km daily drive except Sun amounts to Rs. 14600 while maintenance expenses amount to Rs. 3400 per month (1800 oil n filter , 1300 service repairs, 300 tyre). I hope this information will help prospective car buyers.

Personally, I beleive this is a better car than mehran or old model (2013《) cultus-alto in terms of looks, comfort, and drive. In fact, it's the best car in its price range (2.5 lacs to 3.5 lacs) since there is no issue of parts.

Share the exact location of that PSO pump so whenever possible I would get filled from there too. Good pumps are hard to find.

As you go towards sohrab goth from gulshan chowrangi, the PSO pump that I had mentioned is located to the left side just before sohrab goth bridge. It comes before shell pump.

I used to use cng but the performance of the engine degraded when on gas. I remember that I used to fill around 200 rs cylinder and it lasted whole day. It was around two years ago when cng prices were rs. 60 /. Total distance to office is 50 km (25 km each side).

Margala Plus is a good car. It will not give you much trouble if maintained properly.

Next time fill from PSO under karsaz / Shara e faisal bridge inshaAllah you will get even better mileage.

I have Suzuki Margalla 1996. The major problem with this otherwise good car is mileage.

With AC on, the car heats up quickly on long drive (+25 km). So, I have removed AC from the car.
But the surprising part is that even then it gives me a fuel mileage between 8 - 11 kmpl, depending on the traffic.

Also, there is a timing belt issue. Being made of rubber, the belt tends to break down frequently resulting in an expense of Rs. 2,000 (500 belt, 1500 labor) about every 6 months. In contrast, the Toyota and Honda cars built later than 2000 have a chain belt that lasts for a lifetime.

In short, you should buy this car only if you can't afford a Toyota or Honda.

The plus side of this car is that it's better to drive as compared to older model Cultus or Mehran, which are crap cars. It's a good car if you tend to drive for short distance (<20 km) and with CNG, in which case you can drive with AC on.

Personally, I hope to sell this car and buy a Toyota or Honda in March 2019. The fuel cost will nearly be the same while the maintenance lower as compared to maintaining a Suzuki car.

You pleas change your radiato4 with an aluminium radiator from water pump it will cost you around 3500 at the most then remember me in your prayers
I have margalla the same heating now no heating and the needle hardly gets up without ac and with ac it gets up so little that it's hardly noticeable.
Aluminium has the tendency to dissapate the heat more faster and please don't go for copper as usually mechanic advise this to keep you hooked up

See the specific heat capacity of copper and aluminum..... Copper dissipate heat more...the problem is copper one is single nali but alluminium ones are double nali and larger.... moreover copper oxidozes to copper oxide if water is used and clogs itself whereas aluminum ones Don't. Corrode early....but if coolant is used copper are best

Last Sunday my margalla back shock spring got damage.i was replaced it with new which seems minor thinner then the old one.
Now on load in digee with 3 people at back seats.car seem very low and came sound on speed breaker should i go for spacer under back springs
