Also with a help of a thermo meter you can check the temperature at which it opens up and the temperature at which it is fully open. Also when you take it out, clean it nicely and put it back. Remove all the gunk on it and if you running water, it will most likely out of spec and would need replacement.

for cars that are in production it is a cheap item, for cars that are out of production its an expensive item. I was once quoted 1400 for a Khyber thermostat valve in magazine line. I purchased 300 rupees part from junkyard. Just make sure you buy the item with correct temperature rating. When you take out yours check if its 82, 88C rated and get an exact replacement for it. Its a simple DIY job. You have to open two nuts, replace the part and a gasket and apply some silicone.

Also if the car is running on water since ages then you should leak test the car. Because thermostat will put the car on optimal operating temperature (which is very good for the engine life) however it will trigger all micro holes in the system will slowly take in air and convert water to steam and over heat the car. Suzuki parts are dirt cheap so consider replacing the radiator, all hoses and water bodies, the water pump and also check the intake manifold thoroughly. The inlet and outlet lines of intake manifold get rusted with time if you run on water and you will have to get this fixed. Also it has a small freeze plug on the bottom which mechs call tikli, it rusts and you will should change it as well. If you plan to open the head for any work then clean the block and head cooling lines as well otherwise skip this part. Then fill a quality coolant (pre-mixed) because finding good quality di-ionized water will be a wild goose chase. Put the car on auto switch. If the car is really old then you should change freeze plugs as well.. Like if its a 1985 car which was run on water since 30 years most likely the freeze plugs are gone...( I don't know if there are freeze plugs on your engine so you should check this your self)

Running the car cold without thermostat and auto-switch and a big helicopter rotor size fan is not a permanent solution. It will kill the engine in no time. You need to run it between 82C-90C and the factory radiator and fan is enough for that. Actually I am going for a bigger fan because I am planning to Install ac system in my car in a day or two. And here in karachi, I have seen 0 meter mehrans heating up on ac because our traffic is mostly bumper to bumper jammed up. Xperts like @xulfiqar bhai had recommended these fans to solve this issue

If people jam their cars into the behind of the car in front, then your vehicle will be sucking all the hot exhaust gases as well as their AC/radiator fan's hot air across their cooling system. I've seen people literally sitting bumper to bumper. Give your vehicles a little breathing space people!

Esp the advice of using water instead of coolant

Because if people will put serpentine condensers and R143a in their system and have no fan for condenser and put compressor near the firewall then a brand new Mehran will overheat. Xulfiqar recommends swaping the alternator and compressor in Mehran, which will bring compressor near the grill and put alternator at the back near firewall. Then you need to have a multiflow condenser and evaporator and put a fan on the condenser as well. Put the largest possible condenser in the car and put a fast fan on it. Also charge the system by pressure/temperature chart and get the recommended PSI high and low line for the ambient temperature. Also pull vacuum before you charge the system. Don't use air to leak test it because that will kill the dryer.

I have tried to condense all the learning I have gained from Xulfiqar and other experts here. You should read the forums and then intall a system appropriately.

Well I have just noticed the delay of the car in reaching the optimum temperature since the past month. Before that the engine reached the optimum temperature quickly

Check it, if the fan is still auto then the thermo must be stuck open.
