You are right about that. The mechanic I was consulting told me that, there isn't enough room in Mehran for a 4-speed automatic, neither for a CVT. But I am thinking that, if only room is the issue then the size of Mehran and the seventh generation Alto (equipped with a RO6A+CVT) is not that much different. Having said that, this latest engine's electronic and computerized systems are very difficult to get going in a swap. I don't think any or at least many of our local electricians are capable enough to do it.

I couldn't agree more with you on this resale issue. But I am planning to keep this car for a while just yet. Thus, by observing the trend of the influx of numerous new small, budget, and economical cars and many brands entering into Pakistani motor industry (after a very long reign of big three i.e, Toyota, Honda, and Suzuki). I think significantly fewer people will want to buy a Suzuki Mehran. Mainly because of several other much better option's availability within the same budget. For instance, This Suzuki Mehran vxr-euro-2 (2014) is worth around 600k right now. But when the demand will come down the price of the car as well as of the engine won't be the same. If I can get 30k for this engine today, I might not even get 10k to 20k for it after let's say 2 to 3 years. In addition to that, those people who understand that what the modification is worth and capable of, will definitely pay a fair price for it. At least I will, if I get satisfied with the functionality of the vehicle, & if it is according to my requirements.
However, any idea on from where can I get accurate information on whether a 4-speed automatic or a RO6A+CVT can be installed in Mehran?

i understand such mods. but have ZERO trust on our angootha chaap mechanics.

there are several local altos converted to auto with K6a engine. majority have botched wiring jobs.

our local alto old shape, is exactly same as 2001-2003 JDM alto.

the k6a with auto came in 2001-2003 alto. and is a bolt on fit in our local alto.

ALTO is a very good option but the prices are sky high , and then swapping process will take much time and effort

An engine swap may sound like a good solution, but it’s important to keep in mind the size of the task and just how challenging getting the right alternative engine solution can be. Because in truth, swapping an engine is an enormous challenge, requiring a huge amount of time, planning and skill to get right.

Having been on the receiving end of bad resto-jobs, sub-par denting and numerous 'kabuli' parts, my suggestion to you is to sell the car right now as it is in original condition and buy a used Coure with auto transmission. It is also future proof for few years as Coure has a better chance of withstanding engine / transmission swaps than Mehran.

Another thing observed is while doing swap most of them dont understand the science of sensors working, weight of engine, catalytic converters.....resulting in later with loads of errors and the wastage of money and time of the owner.

Mehran 1989 restoration project (automatic mehru)

Salam fellow pakwheelers, I recently got my hands on a 1989 Mehran which was laying idle with my uncle for quite sometime now…. Its condition was 6/10 at best ….. so I bought it from him very very cheap (like way cheap) and thought to restore it as a side/backup car for home use …. Now I got inspired from this video: Now I am aiming to do what he did but even better than him. @nfssaad True that, for that reason I am doing only the necessary work.
1: An engine with Automatic Transmission ⇒ In city traffic, especially bumper to bumper, I often get tired of shifting & keeping a foot on or standby for clutch. Also, as I mentioned that I want a car which ladies can also drive easily.
2: Power steering ⇒ I think that this biceps size is quite enough for me, granted to me by using Mehran's original steering.
3: Wide Angle, Anti Glare Side Mirrors ⇒ By Mehran's original side mirrors you can only see the road right below the mirror, which is not useful at all.
4: Permanent Floor mat (Namda covering, carpeting), and light qalams on scratches etc.

@nfssaad, That sounds quite sensible. Just as I was calculating that, this 'Suzuki Mehran vxr-euro-2 (2014)' which I have right now is worth somewhere around 630k, as it is. And if I spend a little like 10-15k on its make-up it can give even more. On the other hand, if I swap the engine, it's highly unlikely to give me its original price, let alone the decent amount I was thinking of spending on it. Thus, if I sell it and build my desired one from scratch, I can get the job done within the price of this car right here. I might end up saving a few k.

from my experience of fiddling around with old cars, leave your mehran as it is. dont sell it, believe me you need a reliable car at home.

your project car must always be a second car. not a daily driver. at least in the start. in case of any issue with project car, you will become car less if you dont have a reliable daily driver.

what you can do is buy a cheap 1989 alto/mehran. start of with the engine swap first. do whatever welding / structural mods required. then take out the engine and have it repainted.

Yes, i agree. This is a best thing to do as old you have the freedom of spending on old car as u like, just another member here is doing with his mehran in which he has swapped the engine, body work, change of dashbaord,seats, etc etc.

Let ur 2014 mehran in nrmal use, once ur project completes and works well after a good testing, sell out the 2014 and use the project car.
