AssalamuAlaikum,
I've completed 56,000kms on my Suzuki Swift DLX (July 2011 production). The mileage includes one 4,500+km Pakistan Tour and the remaining mostly (95%) city driving. My mileage within city has averaged 11km/L while highway traveling has averaged 14km/L.
The first 55,000 kilometres were trouble free. All maintenance of the vehicle was done as per maintenance schedule by/at Suzuki Riaz Motors Korangi. No untrained mechanic ever touched the vehicle, except for wheel balancing/alignment when I changed the tyres at 45,000 kms.
PROBLEMS:
1) The first problem I have recently encountered is that the car would refuse to start sometimes. This problem is not limited to cold start or morning start (which has happened three times), but happens even if I have driven, say, 20kms to a certain place and tried to restart the car after just 30 mins (happened twice). Moreover, while driving the car, the car's engines shuts off and on trying to start it again, it won't start (happened twice).
One two occasions, I took the fuel line out and turned the ignition key (to start the car) and to see if fuel was being pumped to the engine, but no fuel was being pushed out. This made me think that the problem has something to do with either the fuel pump or maybe with some fuel sensor which activates the fuel pump as soon as the ignition is turned on. (In DLX you will hear a buzz sound and the fuel light turn on during this while when you turn on the ignition each time. I presume this is what happens during this buzzing sound).
There's one important thing that you too, like me, would find odd. Each time, the car started after I left it for 20 minutes to one hour. When the car didn't start, I left it and when I tried started it again after some time, I started on the first self. Once, while the car shut down on Korangi causeway and I asked a colleague to tow it towards Korangi Crossing, while my car was being towed, and having just traveled one kilometre from where the car had originally shut off, I tried the self and the car started as if nothing was wrong!
Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong?
I don't want to waste money experimenting and trying to find the root cause on a trial and error basis.
On phone, the Suzuki Service Manager advised, "Sir, try changing the fuel pump and see if the problem persists". This, to me, sounded ridiculous and I want to first identify the exact root cause and then spend my hard earned money.
Please advise.
2) The second problem has been knocking while picking up the car. This started around the time I crossed 50,000 km mark. I've used mostly Shell regular or Total regular in this car and the engine oil has been only Suzuki-dealership provided one, during the whole 56,000 km mileage.
Assuming that it was one odd case of bad fuel, I filled one complete tank with hi-octane (shell) and the knocking vanished, however, as soon as I shifted back to regular, the knocking restarted. It's the same with Total, Shell, Caltex or PSO fuel. A mix of Rs. 2,000 hi-octane and remaining regular removes the knocking, but not so if the entire tank is filled with regular fuel. Please don't tell me that I'll have to start using hi-octane now. My daily mileage these days is 100 km+.
Please advise here as well.
THANKS IN ADVANCE
