Suzuki Swift Engine Swap or Restore

Hi Pakwheelers,

Hope you all are doing good.

I've a Suzuki Swift DLX 1.3 2010 (Manual). A couple of days back, I got its Engine Compression check which came as 110, 120, 120, and 110 respectively. The Car has reduced 20w-50 up to 500ml in 3000kms. (Odo: 213000+)

I'm getting suggestions for Engine Swap and Engine Overhaul. The engine overhaul would cost around 40-50k as per market research and a full engine swap would cost less than that perhaps.

There's no knocking or any kind of weird sound from the engine, so I assume the change of piston rings would be sufficient to improve the compression and oil-reducing problem. The current oil I've been using is Mitasu synthetic 20w-50.

PS: I'm willing to spend the money on a full engine overhaul as well but only if it is worth it. I'm a bit suspicious of kabli engines as we're not certain what the internal condition of the engine is. The kabli engine might also require work in sometime & there's also problem of ecu & sensors compatibility.

Hello Ammar, I am also kind of stuck in the same situation. My Swift is driven 276+ on its own engine and has been on 10-40 shell oil. Recent compression tests have given a value of less than 100 in all the cylinders. The car was heating up and hence I changed the T-stat + housing and the radiator too but did not help at all, went for a compression test. I am inclined towards a swap of M15. As no mechanic in my city is equipped or knowledgeable enough to overhaul the original engine. Suzuki dealership has also advised for a swap.

I want to convert it to auto transmission too, selling is not an option in my case. So looking at things to see which option would be reliable. Please do keep us updated about your progress with this project.

auto would consume more petrol just be aware.. if a manual gives 11 in city, auto would probably give 8.

which city do you live in?
if the engine is properly overhauled it's also pretty good.
but if you don't trust your mechanic, then go for swap.

M15 is a good choice but that you’ll be spending a lot more on the fuel expenses as DOHC engines usually don’t give much good fuel average. And with automatic transmission, it would come down to 7-8 max in city.

Mechanic is trustworthy. Does an engine overhaul cause any issue afterwards? Like any kind of camshaft calibration or bad fuel economy?
As of bookish knowledge and fuel economy should get improved if the engine goes under a complete overhaul.

if an overhaul is properly done, the fuel economy will improve from the current status, however, it will still be as good as a Swift's fuel economy : ) no high hopes i mean : )
and there should not be any issues afterwards; however, if overhaul is not properly done then of course issues will arise later on .. the car might decrease oil, or leak, lack of power, etc. but all of that depends on the mechanic and his guarantee for the job.
