Suzuki Wagon R Steering Rack Play Issue

I have Suzuki Wagon R VXR model 2017 only driven 27000Kms. While driving it feels that car is not stable I tried to get wheel alignment and wheel balancing but the alignment guy told me that it has play in steering rack go get it fixed from mechanic first and then come to me for alignment the issue will be over. Now please suggest me that should I go to local mechanic for it or should I take it to Suzuki Service shop to get inspected? which option is best and what is the solution of this problem if anyone has the idea or faced same problem then please share me your experience.

Is your car in warranty? If yes, take it to the dealership.

If not, there are only a handful of workshops in each city that actually know what they are doing; the rest are garbage. Which city are you in?

NEVER go to the dealership for such repairs. However, if there is any recall for such kind of issue or you can get it done under warranty, only then visit the dealership, otherwise get it done from an expert mechanic and I'm sure that he's more knowledgeable than the so-called professionals in the dealerships.

The rest is your choice.

just a query, have you been using stock tires or anyother tires ? If others then also tell the size pls. Quite early to have steering rack issues

No, I am not using stock tyres replaced with after market tyres with size 175/70 R13.

If you consut the manual, you will see that it recommends tyre width of 145 or 155, you are using 175. Also height to width ratio of 80, in your case its 70. Using tyres not as per recommendation of OEM impact your steering assembly aswell as suspension. I think that is one of the reasons for your rack being damaged early.

You can imagine there would be greater force on the steering rack for steering a tire with wider base because it will offer more friction. Similarly, low profile tyres impact suspension.

Thank you very much for your feedback brother, I know this is happening due to high gauge of tires I am using. I will surely get them replaced with the recommended size. Now as per your findings what do you suggest me to do first for steering assembly repairing , should I go to dealership or consult with a professional local mechanic?

Bro, dealerships have a mostly parts replacement model, not repairing. You can visit them and ask them to evaluate what the issue is. But have an opinion from a known mechanic, maybe a close friend can recommend so you have an honest opinion. Although I prefer 3S, they charge extra, but you can atleast have satisfcation. And all 3S are not same. Here in Karachi, Danish Motors is very good. They even followup on your visit for satisfcation.

I have 2015 Wagon R VXR, just reaching 50k KM. I have always went to 3S for oil change and maintenance. Never faced any major maintenance related issue uptill now. Recently got the plugs changed and throttle body cleaned. My suspensions do make some noises, which I think is due to bushes in the tie rods getting worn out, I will consider getting them replaced, maybe from 3S aswell.

I'm also facing same issue with steering rack play in Wagon r although mileage is above 100k km.
Is new rack available and can anyone recommend a workshop in Islamabad/Rawalpindi for repairing and installation?
