Me and Waqas came back to hotel, the other 3 weren't back yet. Waqas went in room to have a nap while I sat in the hotel owner's shop where two Lahori guys were having conversation with a local man who happened to be a teacher.
He was telling the history about Kalash people, their religion and culture. He told that how Kalash were ruling Chitral for hundreds of year until they were betrayed by their own people and how Shah Nadir Rais uprooted Kalash rule and killed them until they confined themselves to these 3 villages (Bamburet, Rambur & Birir). It was a really good conversation which increased my knowledge. Gaining the local knowledge is always one of the prime object during tours. This really helps in understanding the area and people better.
So far I didn't try to shoot the picture of any woman or young girl because I wasn't sure how these people would react to taking photos. So I asked him about this. He said that, if you want to take a picture of Kalash girl, you can. They don't see it as bad thing or as a intrusion in their personal life. They would simply hide their face if they are not willing to be shot. And during the festival, you can take photos because festival means freedom.
After this conversation, I got back to hotel where the other 3 also returned. They happened to visit the home of a Kalash man for tea whom they befriended while wandering around. Quite a progress.
Now the hard part of dinner decision came. We asked the hotel owner and he said, "Aap chicken le aayein, barabar mai muslim chicken walay ki dukaan hai, main karhai bana doon ga". This sound better so we got chicken and now ordered chicken Karhai for the 5th consecutive day.
After playing some cards and eating the dinner, we all went to sleep.
