Swift 2019 Automatic Stalling while Accelerating

Hi all,

I have encountered a very peculiar problem with my Swift. Sometimes, I have noticed that during heavy rains, the car has an issue with the Engine RPMs. It drives fine, but if I stop at say a traffic light and put the car into N, and before moving, shift it into D, and press the accelerator. There is a slight lag or a hiccup before moving, and the RPMs drop suddenly to very low (around 400 or so). Sometimes, the drop is so sharp that the car stalls. Normally, there is no issue while driving. The car is brand new, bought it a month back and has only been driven 1800 KMs till now. Got the First service Inspection at 1000 KMs as per service timelines.

Would be thankful, if someone could point out this issue.

why would you put the car in N on every signal? who taught you to do that?

I don't put it in N on every signal or short stop. Sometimes when I have to stop for a long time, just to ease the foot off the brake, I shift into N and engage the Handbrake. But the issue here is about "slight lag or a hiccup before moving" which I am concerned about. I told the dealership about this issue when I went for the 1000 Km inspection but I don't think they understood the issue fully, since this problem only occurs during heavy rains. In normal/dry conditions, there is no issue at all.

Nothing wrong with shifting it in N.
You can have the throttle body checked the day this issue happens

Thanks. The basic inspection which was carried out at 1000 Km, had the throttle body check, it was fine, Could it be a dirty Idle Control Valve (ICV)? or a faulty Mass flow sensor (MAF), Manifold absolute pressure (MAP) or Oxygen (O2) sensors? I will get it checked when it happens again.

Also I would like to add, that if I have turned on the AC during this predicament, the RPMs never drop below 800. So this lag / hiccup / stalling never happens with the AC turned on.

I got same issue with my swift auto 19.7000 kms driven till now.what i have noticed is tht if i press accelerator slowly it drops its rpm a bit like 500 to 400 then if i press accelerator a bit more then car behaves normal.by time i have adjusted to it.but throttle body must b sprayed on next service

I have also noticed the same, The only solution to that is to press the accelerator a little more than normal, so that RPMs rise a bit before shifting. Throttle body can be cleaned, but this issue only happens during heavy rains, so it seems like water or vapors seep in the throttle body or something...which causes this issue, as normally it doesn't ever happens.

strange .. it sounds like the iac is choked but i have never heard of a new car having this problem
you should definitey take it back to the stealership and get it checked because its under warranty etc

Since it's happening only during rains (means outside temperature is not that high so it could be related to cooking issues most probably since a dropped temperature for engine operation can also result in this problem). Check the coolant, if coolant is not right, less or something, it can result in incorrect engine operating temperature resulting in lags etc. If that is fine then check the thermostat. Also air-intake temperature sensor needs to be checked and cleaned if needed. In these modern cars the air-intake temperature sensor is embedded within MAF sensor. Don't clean it with engine hot, clean it in the morning on cold engine, otherwise you'll end up frying and clean it only with contact cleaner.

Got the problem finally resolved after tirelessly checking for throttle body issues and related sensors (which all were normal).

The spark plugs needed cleaning so got them cleaned as well as the air filter. Now the problem has totally disappeared.

I was planing to buy used Gli corolla automatic but I heard from many peoples that Gli is very sluggish in terms of pick and worse in mileage .

the 1300 cc is too underpowered for it
