Swift Service Charges

Dear Fellows,

My Swift just went past 5000km and went in to the authorised dealership where it was bought, for its 1st proper service.
As we are all aware new swift comes in with 3 free service tokens
1st was used at 1500 km when car went in just for a check up and nothing was changed.
This time Oil, Oil filter, Gear Oil and Air filter were changed, plus a routine cleanup of the car.
The bill was Rs 6000, the token I was told was for labour which was not charged for.
Just wondering when these tokens run out the bill will probably climb upto Rs10000, including labour and tuning charges.

Please share the charges that you pay for routine servicing of Swifts at authorised dealerships.

I paid the same with my swift at 5000 kms... These charges include prices of engine oil, gear oil, filter etc.

they replaced gear oil at 5K only. i believe it lasts for 40K atleast.

i also went to suzuki motors whn my swift was 5k km done and aftr some discussion the representative told me that its not necesssary just an option and according to the manual it shouldnt be done b4 40k km and i didnt changed the gear oil....

and i thnk tht there is no need for break service for a 5k km driven car...u jusst need to get the plugs cleaned nothng elsee

It is better to get the gear oil changed at 5K, it costs just 900 and will be good for next 40,000(manual also tells to change at 5K).

Regular service charges after every 5K are 1200(which they call service package which includes alignment, balancing,break service,tuning etc) so no need to worry. Oil and filter changing is to be done as per the requirement and its cost depends on which oil you use, air filter to be changed after 10-15000 Kms so every time you will not get this bill.Air filter changing was not required at 5000, next time check what u need to change as per the manual and not what the workshop guy is saying.
Another suggesion is change the plugs to iridiums IK20, it will improve fuel ecnonomy and will increase the pick significantly and they are good for 25000 Kms and my suggestion for oil is ZIC XQ, it can be used for 7000 Kms and also improves fuel average.

all is topi drama of suzuki 3s dealers, no need for break service, gear oil change, alignment, balancing,,tuning at just 5000 km, i am usuing suzuki cars since long and just get done tunning after 10,000 km without touching carborator, done break service after 40,000 km, wheel balancing only at time of replacing new tyers, yes our roads are not good enough so need to do alignment after every 10,000 km
i am good with this routine

Sir with all due respect but the car in discussion is not carby based engine. Swift has very advance engine and not every one can tune it (Read: Local Road side mechanics). Otherwise you will end up in more fuss and money than you actually have to pay for regular maintenance. Furthermore, it is highly recommended to go to authorize service centers as they have all the require diagnostics items that will require to tune/diagnose any problem.

@Sdogar, thanks for you detailed reply. May I ask where to get these plugs from in Lahore and how much do they cost. I can possibly keep a set of these plugs with me when I go in for the next service at 10,000 and get them changed.

As regards the Engine Oil, I usually dont make a fuss and let Suzuki guys put in whatever they feel is appropriate.

One more thing does chosing the Oil or Plugs of your choice, effect the warrenty in anyway. As when the car was new I wanted to get rear parking sensors installed and the insurance company wanted to put in a tracker, but Suzuki people told me any modifications would make the warrenty null and void.

service at 5000 kms? changing gear lube, cleaning plugs etc etc.. and you guys are paying money for that ON A NEW CAR?

I would shove my entire size 14 boot up their behinds if they asked me for such money on a brand new car. Its robbery. This is 2011, when cars are built with much tighter tolerances than they were built in the 1950s (those were entirely hand built in ramshackle shacks).

Long story short - the first 5000 km and 10,000 kms inspection should be free of charge - and nothing is replaced unless it was faulty - its done by the manufacturer to ensure their product is passing on good service life. All over the world - it goes like this that you are supposed to bring in your car for the initial run inspections, if you dont then your warranty gets questioned.

My God, these goons are looting people now.

Consumers in Pakistan are being looted right now, and unfortunately when you question, the answer that you get is "Pakistan mein to aisa hi hota hai". Which I find is absolutely rediculous. It has somehow become the easier choice for everyone to blame it all on Pakistan and walk right out of it.

My car in London which is 6 years old, does almost twice the miles compared to my car in Lahore, and only goes for an MOT and a routine service once every 12 months. And as far as I remember in 6 years the Air filter and Plugs were only changed twice. Otherwise its only a change of Engine oil and Oil filter.

Whenever I quote it to the authorised dealerships here in Lahore the simple answer I get is "Oh ji bahar ki to har cheese eik number hoti hai, Pakistan mein to aisa hi hota hai".

Its hard to believe that the Engine Oils, Filters and Plugs that we get in Pakistan are anyway inferior to what is available abroad, so why do we need such a frequent change. The dusty environment could be blamed, but still we should not require car servicing more than twice a year, or at the minimum every 12,000 km.

Just my 2 cents here.

You are correct, its a bare advantage people are making on - they know their customers are idiots hence they also know that if they ask for silly amounts of money for anything they will pay.

oils, filters and all general wear parts are the same the world over, the reason they fail in Pakistan is actually an organized orchestra of events, they sell you a new car - you take it back within 5000 kms for them to mess it up because the techs there are told to do so. You keep taking it in for warranty work every now and then - and they charge you for consumables everytime, your warranty expires and you appoint your illetrate mechanic to fix your car, he also throws consumables out the door faster than you can say door. Add the heavy engine washing, rigged repairs - and you know the result. In this we are tuned to the note that the consumables are 2 no. (nonsense) - we literally have genius mechanics judging engine oil by its color and slick (hahaha)

If your car is correctly diagnosed and repaired - it would have the exact same service life as anywhere else in the world. Theres nothing magical about the lubes and parts available at the motorfactors in UK, EU, ME, US.

Suzuki people don't put the right thing in always so always select yourself and do consider my suggestion.

You can get the IK20 from JZ on PW, not sure from where in market you can get and they cost 4200. Changing the plugs will not void the warranty as the company themselves in manual has recommended iridium plugs NGK IFR6J11(you can try to get them but they r not available in market, so DENSO IK20 is their replacement & r equivalent). You don't need the tracker as immobilizer is a very good feature which will protect your car.

To add on that, recently the Honda guys were telling me to replace oil at every 5000 or after three month which occurs earlier and I was like if my car doesn't cover even 2000 in three months, he was like that you still will have to replace oil in order to keep car on warranty... To my astonishment, I referred to user manual and it says the same :o

Gear oil change after first 5000km is necessary. My Suzuki owner's manual of Swift 2013 says the same.

Reason:
=> When new gears start to work in a car, they have sharp edges because of cutting and finishing procedures during there manufacturing.
=> When gears regularly run a car some small microscopic metal pieces from sharp edges are thrown away in the gear oil making the edges of gears smooth.
=> After gears become smooth and fully functional we need a gear oil change to get rid from microscopic metal piecs in gear oil.
=> If we don't change gear oil these microscopic metal pieces can slowly harm the gears. This harm is very slow and most of people does not notice it.
=> It is better to change only first gear oil after 5000km. And after that gear oil change interval should be between 40000km to 45000km.
