Takk Takk Noise after installing new Brakepads

Today I changed the front brakepads to my 2010 Corolla Altis 1.8 and sand papered the existing rear brakepads.

The brand is ADVICS which is also OEM for Toyota brakepads. It's made in Thailand and I bought it from a well-reputed auto store in Mardan.

Car breaking is now perfect (not too hard, not too soft) but as soon as I reached home, I noticed a "Takk Takk" sound when I gently press the brake pad (so gentle press that the brakes don't engage). Otherwise, I don't hear this sound at all when doing normal breaking.

I don't know what went wrong!?

Sound like a loose caliper bolt or warped disc.

My mechanic told me your discs are good. He did not even polished them saying they are original and not to mess with them unnecessarily.

If it were the discs, then there would be squeaking sound. The sound is loud "Tukk Tukk".

Caliper bolts might be the culprit. Are you referring to the long pin (that has rubber boot attached) or the clips that hold the brakepads?

Also, he used normal Guard grease. I don't know where to look for the brake grease that used to come in small sachets. Any idea?

If this grease was used to service the brake calipers, they will sieze. You need silicone grease and the little boots that go on the slidepins.

Did your mechanic install new anti rattle clips on the pad carrier? or are they missing from your car?

You're absolutely right and I struggled to find silicon greases so I bought this "Silicon Adhesive Sealant" today:

Will it work? It has melting point of 287 °C. Also, the old grease it had from the previous brake service (2 years ago) was still present and there was no brake failure till this date. Is that what you meant by 'brake seize'?

Are you talking about these caliper clips or the steel sheet that goes on the backside of pads?

I took it back to the mechanic today and the Tukk Tukk noise was coming from the driver's side front wheels.

He applied a lot of this "Silicon Adhesive Sealant" and the noise disappeared (at least for today).

God forbid if the noise comes back, I guess I have to find new Kabli caliper pins in the used market.

Now, one wheel has silicon sealant while other three are on grease

Oh no, you applied sealent instead of silicone grease... Applied only on anti rattle clips or applied on pin too?

I'm not sure about the pins but it was heavily applied on the caliper clips and some on the steel sheet that goes on the back of brakepads. Will silicon sealant cause any problems for me?

And is anti rattle clip the same thing as this (red annotated)? :

you applied silicone RTV to the brake pad rattle clips? - are you serious now?

my man, those clips take a dab of silicone grease, not sealant - and your clips seem like no one has ever bothered to even touch them with anything to clean them up.

please remove this sealant from them, clean them with a brush, soap and water and use a wire brush to clean the area where these clips sit, clean till you see shiny metal, then a touch of silicone grease is spread there to prevent rust and the clips seated on top. silicone grease is 100% waterproof.

Buy Harris O ring grease from market also available online, clean this sealent properly and apply that silicone based o ring grease on clips and pins.

I tried to buy new anti rattle clips from a few different clips in Lahore.

They look at me like I'm crazy. I don't know if dealers stock them? But I haven't been able to buy new ones so far.

Yes, those clips are dirty indeed. Mechanics are tooo lazy to even lift their finger these days. Honestly, I'm tired of micro-managing them.

My friend bought new anti rattle clips for his Premio. It was just Rs.100 a piece (Kabli ones) and he didn't applied any silicone grease on them since they were new.

(1) Is it safe to drive my car till there is no noise?
(2) Do you recommend me to clean those clips or source new ones?
(3) It will take me Rs. 800 to buy new clips for both front wheels and it will cost me Rs. 1000 to buy 2 tubes of silicon grease. Which one would you choose?

Is there any difference between Harris Vacuum grease and Harris O-Ring grease?

Also, how much of these should I order for 1 wheel?

These clips are sold as part of a kit with aftermarket brake pads but our importer bhai hazraat dont actually buy anything officially but buy auction lots as scrap removal from warehouses.

However these clips are available as genuine spare parts from showroom parts counter too.

And you only need a drop of the grease, one 85 gram tube will last you a decade or more in private car ownership.

Perfect, I'll order the tube.

For now, I think I should just drive it (3 tires on normal grease while 1 tire has silicon sealant) since there's no sound and brakes are good.

If the sound is back, I'll buy those clips for front wheels and apply the silicon grease.
