@fouadhafeez, DD is taking time, so I am grabing the oppurtunity to share what I think.
2.5 ton has two variants, Long Wheel Base 406 (U 900), our army have them mostly in soft-top variants. Shortwheel base is 416 (U 1100), very few are there in the Army, mostly used by them as cranes. There's one parked in a yard near Tarnool, its cabin and engine are missing, though the gearbox is still there!
The ambulance variant you are referring is 421.129 (U 600), its wheelbase is almost equal to 416.
Both these 2.5 ton variants are equipped with OM 352 5.7 liter 6 cyl diesel engine, which delivers upto 110 HP & can be tuned to deliver more, most of the bigger Mercedes trucks also had the same engine. DD can tell better which one's had them, may be 911?
Camper idea is great, most of the moggers here who bought the ambulance variant bought it for the same purpose (except DD), but before doing body modifications, try it in stock to evaluate if this effort is worthy, or you can invest the same amount on your mog to super tune it to go anywhere you want with bunch of gadgets!
421 U 600 parts hunt is not big issue, you can get them from Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi easily. 240D is one of the most khoota engine around, you can run them on vegetable oil and they will be more than happy to stay vegeterians till the time you get some diesel protiens for them!
All mogs used by Army are 24 V, they were originally produced as 12 V in the era when Army made the decision to buy them, so just for Pakistan, Merecedes supplied 24 V.
You can get spare ambulance cab from a mog killer, wouldnt be an issue, it weight should be around 400-450 KGs, all you have to do is to agree a competitve rate with the killer/kg.
Most practical idea would be to get a 421.128 (I am not suggesting this because I own soft-top :)), and get spare ambulance cab for your project & keep you options open, you can also buy a spare hard-top complete cab but the heat in Pakistan makes life tougher in the closed cab!
Just check your cab for the corner rest before short-listing the rig, also check the rush beneath the driver and navigator seat. Ask the killer that you need one in engine start and running condition (its not hard to find one). Best of Luck and decide it fast before its late!
