I test drove the new BMW 335i Coupe recently and came away very impressed. I've always been a huge fan of BMW, especially the E46 3-series. I was a bit sceptical at first when BMW decided to use a twin turbo inline 6 because of the lag associated with turbocharged engines.
The new coupe is not only one of the best BMW's that i've driven, it was one of the best cars that i've driven, period. There was no perceptible lag from the twin scroll turbo's and the engine felt like a normally aspirated V8. The power comes on strong from around 1800rpm all the way up to the redline. The 0-60 is around 4.9 seconds, which is comparable to the Evo XI. The handling was a bit soft compared to the E46 M3 but it was still quite composed. The brakes were phenomenal, which really didn't come as surprise as BMW is known to have some of the best brakes in the industry.
There is a new Piezo direct injection system which can inject fuel upto 3 times during one combustion cycle. The fuel burns before it even hits the cylinder walls.
Pictures really don't do justice to the elegant design of the new coupe. The car that I test drove had a Space Gray exterior and a Coral Red interior which was just jaw-dropping gorgeous. BMW has proved once again that it really knows how to make an amazing and practical performance car. For $45k the coupe is one hell of a car. Mercedes What?
