You should check out other mechanics, what else? In Islamabad there are at least two dealerships hat I know of. Do you have just one dealership there?

All personal choice. Even I would buy Japanese. Let me share with all reading this that a khaloo ov mine bought an XE after seeing my Japanese XL back in 1997. People could tell difference in:

1. Drive - Local assembled is heavier.
2. Seats - Mine were more comfortable.
3. Some technical my driver explained present in my car but not local ones.

Well said. The silver paint called 'Silky Silver' has NEVER been metallic and this is what I hate.

True. Honda's black is darker and white is more like snow. Other than this, shades in Corolla particularly darker ones like Strong Blue and moreover, Black look dull.

Swirls shall get into any dark shade if regular cloth is used. Try buying MICRO FIBER pieces. They cost anywhere between Rs. 150-400 a piece but are specifically for this purpose.

This is the only thing I have seen bad in Umber baji's Swift:

It was driven less than 15000km back then.

This is what happened to mine, but after around 55,000kms.
Got a Momo one for while, but it was too light, the genuine one has weight that makes for more pleasant shifting, reverted back to OEM one, costs around 2800rs :-#

Both cars have their pros and cons, really, and if you as a person find something better, its quite alright, but telling it like its the final judgement isn't really objective.

The Vitz has comfort, yes. More spacious at the back, and softer suspension. However, the harder suspension of the Swift has a purpose. Stiffer suspension= better handling. Take it from someone who drove a Vitz for around 25000 kms and a Swift for around 60000 kms.

Swift is lighter, means better economy, and a more responsive and nimble car. Try hard acceleration on the most common 1.0 Vitz. You will hear the engine rumble with stress.

you talk of a 1.3 Vitz, how common are those? and if a 1.0 is 12 lakhs, how much would u expect a 1.3 to be? I agree that engines must be equated for the sake of comparison, but why leave availability out of the equation as well as price?

Japanese cars are indeed of a better quality, BUT they are NOT in best conditions most of the time. People who inspect their cars thoroughly before buying will attest to that. You have to look very hard for a Jap in "best conditions".

I've driven a Swift since Feb 2010, there is still no sound or rattling parts or squeaks or anything inside the cabin despite 67000 kms on the odo and frequent trips to Hyderabad, Hala and even Sehwan sometimes, from Karachi.

I quite agree with u that a Japanese car is a better option, but looking for one as compared to driving a good-quality PDM out of the showroom are deal breakers for people with very little time. And if u know how to deal with local manufacturers, u can have ur way in quite a few things (4 complementary cd players at different times in exchange for my old worn out ones, for no cost, by PakSuzuki :P)

Its a matter of opinion and perspective, please be objective rather than imposing.

The same happened with my Gli's gear knob despite it being NOT painted chrome like the Swift's.
The Swift's gear knob is the same as in the international one of the same model. And I can't say for Vajih's, but any gear knob would die after 55000 kms of shifting at the hands of a grease monkey
I fail to see how that's a quality issues. COsts just 2800rs to replace, and should be free for a newish car if under warranty, and if a big enough scene is created

I've seen Corolla's break their axles at the showroom and Liana's have serious engine trouble requiring huge sums of repair expense. THAT is serious stuff.

Ruhail, i need your advice man, i have to buy a car. My option initially was city (goood mileage and i love the drive by wire feature, tried that in our family civic). I dont want it anymore (its no more spacious than my current 1985 model nissan and interior material is OMG sad).
Now my options are brand new DLX or a jdm vitz.

Swift:
probably the best feature packed pdm vehicle, (noise less cabin, glasswool bonnet lining, alloy rims, abs AND most importantly immobilizer)
cons for me are low fuel economy. ( we owned one in 2010 and it gave us only 9-10 kmpl)

Vitz.
a lot of features i hear
good fuel economy reported by users
spacious

cons for me in vitz, old car, i dont know if the reports of 17-18 kmpl in city are accurate (one of my friends owned it and sold because of sad fuel economy, he said k it depends on piece, if your lucky you get a car with good mileage as it is a second hand car.
i dont likee the soft suspension.
no immobilizer (please correct me if i am wring here)

Why i am not seeing so much enthusiasm in people for this car???

I mean now the automatic version has also arrived so it will be loads of fun to drive this small 1.3 Little speed monster and its brand new as well so what if its slightly overpriced!!!

I think people of our country have a lot of "Faltu Ka Paisa" that they don't buy this masterpiece and go for expensive cars like City and Civic!!! Now who says PAKISTAN IS A POOR COUNTRY!!! Seriously whenever i get out in Islamabad i see more Civics than Citys and more Citys than Swifts!!!

Swift is a very nice car and has great pick up as its 1328cc DOHC...I love it but the only point that dissapoints me is its small size!!!

But majority of people go for Bigger Cars as they have a lot of Extra Money as expensive cars are seen more on roads than cheap cars!!!

I think we all should start liking this car from now like RollOnBigMama said (They are showing so much commercials and advertisements on TV and in newspapers, i am sure people will like it especially the auto version!!!

And if you'd read, which again I doubt you did, I appreciated the Vitz on its positives as well, and agreed that a Japanese car in good nick is a better buy.

Well i get a fuel economy of 12.5-14 in city(12.5-13.5 with AC, without more than 13 always). City is faisalabad so less traffic congestion. Using iridium plugs.I have never had any complaint regarding fuel economy, never got anything below 12.5. I get really surprised when people quote below 12 but that may be due to difference in traffic conditions and traffic jams where vehicle idles too much. Swift manual in my opinion(and in the opinion of most of the automotive journalists worldwide, read any international review)is a fun to drive car. It has establshed a repute across the continents and has achieved a cult status. Negative comments you find here are mostly by people who have no experience of the car and have listened to word of mouth. Consistent improvement in pakistan of swift's sales year on year(2nd year sales were 1.5 times of first year and this year it is going even higher) are also proof of positive growth on the basis of actual feedback.

well, you doubt a lotta things I see. I suggest, my dear sir, with all due respect, :), be a little optimistic in ur views and opinions.

I read every SINGLE WORD of ur worthy post.

u mentioned every single thing, everything important, IMHO, and the rgument is quite plausible, I agree.

But the only thing u did not mention was the fuel economy of the car. Swift, manual transmission, hardly exceeds 12KPL in intercity driving, I mean the REAL WORLD intercity driving in which u can hardly engage the third forward.

People actually drive the car in 4th or 5th gear on Kashmir Highway (an instance) at a speed of 70kph and then claim the "intercity" mileage to be 15KPL or more. :S

What can u possibly expect from the same DOHC married to an auto tranny?

Seriously, when I spend something like 1.4m, I keenly observe the value of the product I am getting. 1.4m worth of car, that too small, hardly able to occupy a family of three on a long drive, and the fuel economy like a Mercedes C180.

ANY person who spends his hard earned money, and with the tiniest possible expertise in cars would rather go for a slightly used, but a bigger car for family use. Or would save up another 2 or 3 lakhs (i know it isn't easy) and would preserve the 1.4m all the way.

One buys an auto swift, gets it registered, puts on some goodies, and then wants to sell it. Whats he gonna get in the open market?

IMO, fuel economy and the worth of money, these two are VERY important factors for a person who has to spend that much on a car for his family use. Cz at the end of the day, he HAS to drive it.

I've PM-ed u a detailed reply. The economy is good, gives 12-14/14.5.
I travel a 100kms daily almost.
The car is indeed reliable as well, has seen me to interior sindh and through karachi rains without ever letting me down.
